i think the original poster was looking for the muffs that expand the sound.
Yeah, that's an easy game to play, especially with muffs. And probably tubescreamers, but I've never gotten into them...
I'm not against the more traditional clones - I like that they are being mentioned so I know where to look if I ever go that route, but you're right, I'm looking for something that expands on the sound a bit. Nothing super crazy, but I've become accustomed to the flexibility of the Musket.

Yep. Big fuzzy riffs are the name of the game.

Musket. You could also flip your flavour of the month every singe time a new hype comes along, but imo...if you can't do it with a musket and a good guitar/rig, you're probably doing it wrong
I'll admit I haven't tried a ton of muffs yet, but I've tried enough to know that the differences between a certain type/era muff mostly seem to come down to nuances, and maybe controls/tweakability. Like I said before, the only way of really figuring out what those nuances are actually about, would be to try all your options with your guitar, your ears, your amp/speakers...It's kinda pointless imo to take my word or anyone else's when it comes to specific recommendations, there's just way too many variables involved imo.
So I'm not saying the Musekt is THE uber-muff, but it's tweakable enough to give you a wide range of Muff type tones. Not too picky when it comes to amps, thanks to the eq, and more gain than any other muff I've come across. Useable gain that is, cause I'm not counting the hot rodded 98 gain stages muff clones that just choke when you max the gain.
But still, I'm thinking of flipping mine. I just like superfuzzes and tonebenders more, I can't afford to keep too many pedals around that I don't really love to death. That's not sneaky spam or anything btw, I'm in Europe, and I haven't completely made up my mind yet either...
I'm as much of a gear hound as anyone here, dispite my little whise-ass lectures...I'll probably hunt down a Hoof or Supercollider a week after I flipped the Musket

It's not that I dislike the Musket at all, I think it's the cat's pajamas. I just feel stupid having the Twosome around when I hardly use the Fix'd. It seems like a good opportunity to branch out and see if there is another muff I like better since I'm already selling it off.

I totally get that. Even when I really like one of my pedals, when there's a good reason (well, GAS excuse) to replace it, like say if it were stolen...I'll always go with something else. There's too many nice stuff out there to restrict yourself, and there's nothing keeping you from maybe eventually going back to the Musket, in case you should find out that it's really your favorite muff

trey, i've owned and/or played a LOT of the fairly easily attainable pedals that get mentioned in these threads, including owning a musket. i've mentioned it a bunch before, but you should really branch out. muskets are great. it was my first "super muff". i'm really really glad i reached out though to try some others. if you're selling the twosome anyway, definitely do yourself a favor and try some other stuff. i'd say that though the musket is great and versatile and tunable, the differences are way more than subtle between it and some of the others.

I think I prefer the Musket to the Cloven Hoof.
I love the Cloven, it's just that the Musket can go a little further.

Yeah man - I kind of feel obligated to try some other things. Worst case scenario is that I find out I had it right all along, which isn't such a bad thing, and I pick up another Musket.

It was extremely snazzy.

Like more versatile? Or more gain?

For the sake of discussion, what about the O.G. Super muff, the swollen pickle?
Especially now that they put the knobs on the outside with the Dirty Donnie edition?

IMO the Swollen Pickle falls victim to the fact that since it came out there are a lot more muff circuits that are a lot radder.
That said, I've only played one and it was right around the time demand started to skyrocket, so there was no way I could afford it anyway -- which may have colored my experience.

Never messed with the DD edition, but though the Swollel Pickle MKII I used I have was capable of some nice muff tones, it didn't have the same amount of gain my musket has, and it could get as distortion-y and smooth as the Musket either. The focus control on the musket doesn't do much imo, but all the other controls give you a nice range of useable tones. With the Swollen Pickle, the tone controls went from too harsh to way too dark, there was really not a lot of useable range outside the 12 'o clock area...

Haven't seen/played the Dirty Donnie one, but I was pretty unimpressed with the mkII I tried several years back. I didn't have my Musket yet, but saw no reason to 'upgrade' from the NYC muff I had at the time.

It's not a Muff, but you have to try the Fingerprint Noir.
So dark and crunchy.

I haven't got a dirty Donnie pickle yet either, but from my understanding it only has 1 extra control, but it did move all the controls to easily tweakable positions instead of having to take it apart to change the voice and clip so you can make it more standard muff-ish.
Also I believe it was Jwar singing the praises of the Abominable Effects Hail Satan Deluxe a few months ago...
It's certainly an attractive pedal if your into satan and goats....
It has a clean blend too.

I've seen folks talk well about the Hail Satan. Worth a google at least.
