Did the moog tour. Part of me was happy I got to see it, part of me was a little understandably desiring more depth (its a tour geared towards the public, not just my nerdy self), and part of me was kinda hatin'.
The tour guide was mostly informative, but went on a bit of a analog-purist schpeel, dissed sampling keyboards/samples as not having those subtle differences analog synths have, and simultaneously recognized the former extreme cost of Moogs while simultaneously upholding a luxury status of their products.
Which isnt really a problem, and I rationally accept that they make high quality products that are special, but theres some emotional trigger that just made me say "man fuck that guy" out loud to a group of people. Such a weird conflict.

unfortunately i don't have a specific suggestion for memphis for bbq, but having grown up in tennessee, i can tell you that you'll have a ton of options. like taquerias, good bbq places are often shitty and dirty looking, the filthier the better. there's probably some yuppie clean looking places with fancy microbrews that are good, but you really want to look for a hole in the wall with sweet tea and sun drop. and being in tennessee, you're still in the pig dominated region of bbq, i.e. ribs and pulled pork and such. so those are the foods you'll really want to focus on. it'll be brisket when you get to texas. cow dominated bbq area. although you'll still find some fantastic brisket in memphis, many texas purists won't even serve pulled pork at their bbq places, so get it while the getting's good.

I just got to NOLA and its already amazing me. It feels so different than any city I've been in. Seeing Death Grips in this city is going to be a trip.

New Orleans is awesome, I love it there. Get some blackened chicken and jambalaya, you will not be disappointed.

NOLA is one of, if not the greatest, cities in this miserable country. My wife is on a plane there as we speak, I'm too busy with a new job to have been able to join her.
Not sure how long you're staying but both Rebirth Brass Band and Kermit Ruffins are playing this week. Knowing Kermit, he's probably playing a half dozen places this week. If you have a chance to see him at the Mother In Law Lounge, do it. If you have a chance to see anyone play at the Mother In Law, do it.
If you don't know where to start for music, skip the Quarter and go right to Frenchman Street. Need music and/or food late at night, go to the back room of Buffa's, at the corner of Esplanade and Burgundy.
Must do - Willie Mays Scotch House. Some of the best soul food you'll ever eat, best fried chicken in the US. Go early. Fried chicken, catfish, cornbread, butter beans - breakfast of champions. If you're into food, this is your first stop.
Irene's and Galatiore's are nice, old school, and traditions for a reason. But I prefer some of the new school joints. Top of the list is Cochon. Great menu, fair prices, modern upscale cuisine but still laid back NOLA casual. Order a flight of moonshine. Will change your life.
