I first heard the Pumpkins with Siamese Dream and loved it. Then I sought out Gish and liked it, I thought 3 or 4 of the tracks were really good, the rest was decent. Then Mellon Collie came out, and I guess I'm the weirdo because I honestly don't understand the praise heaped on that album. Like almost every other double album in existence, it should have had someone editing it back down in a single album. It has some really good songs, and a whole bunch of self-indulgent bullshit that sounds like a fucking turd. Everything after that I've learned to forget.

Yes. The only one I hate is that damn cover of landslide. So overplayed on the radio. But then I have a major dislike for Stevie Nicks too.

Mellon Collie has a couple of great moments. A good editor and then just releasing everything else in that giant ass box set would have gone a long way to making it more tolerable.

Although I do love the Aeroplane Flies High the song.

man Stevie Nicks straight up frightens me. Anyone that's done that much coke and lived is clearly not completely human.

I really don't have much to add, I only came for this. I lol'd at this more than I should have. Inclusion of "turd", most likely...the mere sound of it makes me giggle, and given the tone of this post, I damn near howled

the white album was full of a bunch of self-indulgent "filler" type shit too.

there seem to be 2 traditional models of mainstream rock double albums

a) the white album model with lots of experimentation in genre etc
b) the "tommy"/"the wall" model

mcis as a single album could have been one of the best albums of the 90s

they spent like a year in the studio with flood eating mushrooms and chili cheese freetos on my sub

i just remembered this eariler today
i went to a small high school and i was the resident pumpkins fan (i.e. the only pumpkins fan)
so when mcis came out - i was in 9th grade
i remember a couple girls who were preppy/jocks (small schoools combine social groups), they knew i was a pumpkins fan, we were sitting in their car and they put on CUPID DE LOCKE of all fucking songs

so the stupid weird shit we hate might have "connected" with some, i guess
let's not downplay how big a fucking deal the album was when it came out...it was a massive success...i remember that era pretty vividly
