Re: I want a Science Amplifier
So after about 5 days of constantly rocking the Shiv I can happily pronounce that THE SHIV RULES SO FUCKING HARD! Man, I'm loving this amp!
First things first, build quality inside and out is outrageously awesome. Amp runs with little to no noise, no switch or toggle popping, perfect all around, feels and looks like a tank and so sexay!
Onto the sounds, they're sooooooooo good! The voice toggle is very useful, lets you choose one of 3 baseline voices. The 1st is very well balanced, tend to favor this one usually. The 2nd adds more highs and high mids, gives the amp a more aggressive voice. The 3rd gives a bass and low mid boost, sounds huge but tight, no slop in the low end.
I love both gain paths pretty equally, tons of variety to choose from, seriously, TONS. The cleans from the 'normal' path are stunning, full and chimey, exactly what I was after. That said, I'm esp loving the clean-ish tones as this amp seems to excel with these! I like how touch sensitive it is too, can dig in a little and bring out the dirt or go easy for the cleans. Oh, and it takes pedals wonderfully, haven't had an issue with anything I've paired with it.
The 'gain' path is excellent too with a very wide and usable gain range. Some great crunch tones and the high gain this thing spits out is excellent, mean and tight and big and super heavy. While it won't go into extreme high gain territory, it gets plenty brutal allowing for palm mutes and such. But when you let it rip is where the high gain shines, really thick and a bit nasty with some great harmonics and clarity going on, like a mixture of a modern and vintage sound, voiced perfectly imo. And again, tons of variety with the interaction of the gain and level control.
Lastly, EQ is powerful and absence knob is a great addition, really tames the highs present with a few different fuzz pedals I favor. Also, the Loudness control is super cool, wish all my amps had this voltage varying master volume feature. I love it!
Thanks again Alex, awesome design and build, glad I got my hands on one!

Shannon, thanks for the awesome review, and needless to say I'm stoked that you are enjoying the amp and all the tones it can strum up.

Re: I want a Science Amplifier
I should never have looked at this thread. I THOUGHT I was happy with my Red Knob Twin... but no, I had to learn that the Street Sweeper exists.
