I have been wanting a small simple looper that I can use with my RC-20XL, (looping loops is super fun!). I like the hold feature I had on my DD-7 but I don't have it anymore. Should I buy another DD-7 or are the hold sections in the cheaper DD pedals just as good? Or should I consider some other pedals? I don't want anything very big or expensive

I really like the looper on the DD7, it's actually my main looper at the moment and has been for quite some time. Beat out the Timeline's looping, the RC-20xl I used to have, the RC2, and the Boomerang+. I only use the DL4 for halfspeed stuff

Cool to hear you like it! Why did you sell the RC-20?

I have been makin noise tape like a madman for the past few days... I wanted to come up with a way to let the music make itself so I thought about making some "Prepared Tapes" with some kind of non musical minimal simple shit on one or two tracks of a 4 track cassette and the other tracks open... You could grab a tape from the pile and put it in the 4 Track which is already hooked up to the mixer and all your noise toys and loopers and you can play along with or bounce down or record over the tracks that are there and make a new kind of music out of something that was there... Anyway I came up with a list of stuff to put on one or two tracks of tape for 30 min on each side and I realized I already have a ton of weird 4 track tapes I made that would be perfect for this so I am now mixing them down...
Here is my lil tape maker for now... The one on top has 9 outs and the the KP3 sounds AWESOME into the Akai...

I thought you would approve... I got those Divinci Code tapes (11) to record over or use for samples...
WHO ELSE IS STILL LOOPING???

I love looping. I use my beloved Boomerang III, wishing to add soon a sidecar control. Looping is so much fun!

Is there a cheapish looper (or long delay) with MIDI (DIN) control for record, play, and stop? That's the only function I want. I'd rather not pay for frills I won't use in the case of a Timeline, Boomerang, or 45000. I can't multitask worth shit, so I'd like my sequencer to tell it to go, then I play guitar for a bit, then let it loop for a while without drifting while I sing. Basically I just want a Ditto with a DIN port, but as far as I can find, nothing like that exists.

i love the shit out of the DL4's looper - it's the only reason i use it actually! i've owned like 7 or 8 over the years since i would wear the switches out pretty quickly, especially when i was playing in a bunch of bands and using them constantly. i still have 3 that i can repair myself (thankfully!) so they're all in good working order... i really love the half/double speed functions as well as reverse, so i constantly switch between all of those functions.
solo i use the loops to either build a composition ala fripp or to do drone-y out of time stuff. i have done some dual DL4 setups in both series and parallel, also with one at the front of the chain and one at the end (which is more useful in my opinion)... parallel is great for getting steve reich-like phase stuff, especially when recording arpeggios and such.
with bands i usually do similar out-of-time washes and clouds with lots of reverse weirdness - just another texture really.

Sold my RC20 again a few months back.
Using my DL4 soley for loops and I'm happy with the giant green behemoth.

There's like a certain tonal quality to the DL4 that I really like

DOD D12
Rack unit, 4 memory banks, i think 12 seconds of looping time. Fully controlable with MIDI programm change. Should be dirt cheap.

I'll keep an eye out. Thanks so much!

Looping is frustrating business when you play with a drummer. Either you're off time, or the drummer is off time, or the drummer can't hear the loop properly, or you have to put up with an annoying volume drop if you're using a dual amp setup (which you should if you want the loop to be distinguishable from what you're playing over it), and it's just grief on trouble on annoyance on pain in the arse. Playing shows scares the shit out of me because I always worry about getting the loops right. But if you play in a duo (like I do) a good looper is indispensable, and playing over feedback/ambiental stuff is loads of fun.

Been using the DL4 and DD7 still. I'm finding that I kind of like the DL4 more now than the DD7 cause I can start and stop stuff which is really awesome. But it takes up so much damn space.
