... that was actually pretty sweet.

But seriously. No Grief. No Ocean. No Ogre?! That's some pretty fucking essential listening right thurrr and its getting glossed over for this watered down The Sword-esque Miller High Life of Doom bullshit*.
And Yob. Yob is rad.
*I typed this, and I didn't want to delete it, but actually all the albums that have been posted are pretty crushing. Just in the interest of full disclosure.

Yup. Hometown pride.
If you like Ocean, check out Grief. Lots of similar touchstones (and Grief are just criminally underrated/never discussed in this scene anyway).

Yeah, I love Grief as well.
What I really dig about Ocean is their ability to have a cleanish/drivey tone that is still SO FUCKING CRUSHING. It's amazing

Over the weekend the fiance and I visited Houston to see my to-be-in-laws. They live in Pearland, and while I can't see myself living in a land of chain restaurants and shopping malls just yet, I can't help but become acutely aware that you can get so much more property outside of my beloved Bay Area. We are currently in an awesome 1-bedroom, 1200 square foot converted-warehouse condo in an amazing, growing part of town... but we paid $350k. For that kind of money in Pearland, it would be 5 bedrooms, 4000+ square feet, back yard, etc. etc. etc. I could actually have a room just for DOOM, dedicated space in the garage for brewing beer, and so on. But then, it's a 20 mile drive for a decent beer bar.
First world problems, amirite?
So, we're looking for a balance. One of my priorities in a city is how it brings the DOOM. I want to be able to see bands. In Oakland, if I had the money and time, I could see decent shows twice times a week. I don't expect to get that, but I would like to see something once a week or two. I've visited Portland, Seattle, Denver, Austin, Houston, Omaha, San Diego, New Orleans, and a few others, but I don't get a chance to check out the music scene. What are great cities to live in or near for seeing music?

Its Mesa and Marshall amps, triple recs and JCM800's. I saw them a handful of times and they weren't using pedals, just their volume knobs.

Richmond, VA. Hands down. THRIVING music scene, and ever present doom scene, along with dudes who want to jam all the time

Just haven't made it out there yet. Actually, have a trip to North & South Carolina planned for the fall.

During my 4 year stay in Richmond I guess I was around it so much that it mostly just went under my nose radar after a while. Every time I go to a show now though it kinda smacks me in the face haha
