I took it to my tech and he said he couldn't fix it so it kinda has me scared about picking up another Sunn amp that hasn't already been recapped. I don't know a whole lot about them but I heard that if the transformers crap out the replacements change the tone for the worse. Still wanna get that Model T from rotgut that is in the Spam thread. SOMEONE BUY MY SG DAMMIT!!!

What was wrong with it and do you still have it?
I need a new project as the 12 string ric copy is almost done, just waiting on a brass nut to finish it off. I actually used it for all of yesterdays practice and had minimal tuning issues. New nut should make it perfect

I bought it off of ebay. The guys said it was working 100% but when I turned it on the volume knob didn't work (neither did the reverb or tremolo). It seemed to be about as loud as my 2204 on 5. insanely clean and absolutely crushing with a Pharaoh and a Rat (separate and stacked). Seriously the heaviest tone I have ever gotten. Then after riffing for about 30 minutes it just died. i smelled something and looked down and there was this black liquid leaking out of the bottom of the chassis. I emailed the guy and he wasn't any help. Took it to my tech and he said the filter cap had died but there was some other seriously shitty wiring in there that he couldn't fix it. I ended up filing a claim and sending it back to the guy. Damn do I want another one. A Solarus or Scepter or Model T would make my fucking day. I'm just kinda nervous that I might get one that craps out on me again.

Gots me a fucking brand new Dynacomp for an EMG 81 / 85 trade. Can't wait to get home and try it in my rig.

all of those Sunn amps are like PTP, it can be a pain in the ass to fix.

I've got pics in a photobucket account. I'll have to post them to see if you guys can find out what might have been p with it.

Skip, I think I saw where you wanted a Holy Grail Nano. There is a big box version in the spam thread for $50 bucks.

I saw that, I actually should remove that from my trade bait list. Skully hooked me up with a Supermoon Verb on sunday. :yay: Far superior to the holy grail.

I've wanted to try a Supermoon. I loved the Ghost Echo but for some reason I've always missed my big box Holy Grail. Matt, the other guitarist in the band has the nano version and it sounds nice, but it doesn't sound like the big box that I had. It seems a tad bit more sterile in higher settings.

The supermoon is awesome, I love it with just a tinge of modulation in there and the 30 second decay can sound HUGE! I always had issues with the big box HG at the band house, it was super picky about its power and half the time wouldn't even work. From what I've heard the nano has alot more stable build quality and reliability.

I've got a Nano and it's just so quarky and sounds great before dirt that I can't get rid of it. It's just got this super trashy sound that I can't deny liking haha
It's ALWAYS before dirt and drive in my chain, with something like an RV-3 or Trinity/Hall of Fame at the end for super ambient stuff

Most of the time when i want reverb I want trashy over the top reverb, or i want super subtle room verb. :idk:

This is always why I wanted a tube amp with verb again, damn how I miss having the Sceptre's onboard verb on 100% of the time...

yeah man the on board verb on the sceptre is hard to match. It's so huge and warm and lush with this wonderful vintage trashyness to it. Someone needs to take the reverb circuit from that amp and the tank and make a pedal out of it, like the solemate but tube.

What all is involved in fixing the transformer? Dude says he would just JB Weld it down and call it a day, which is in line with how I generally fix things, but didn't know if it was a delicate/difficult/expensive thing to fix?

Then I could retube it. And strip the tolex off and make it white

I would get it. I actually thought about it but its a little less powerfulkl than the amps I'm currently using. I'd either bolt the tran down or use rivets.
How much work can you do yourself should be the deciding factor there. Sounds like nothing major is wrong with it to me.

I've never worked on amps, but should be able to handle changing tubes and bolting down the transformer. Wouldn't be comfortable beyond that though. I went to the couple of used shops in town today to try and find a pedal or something to keep me from wanting the Sunn. Didn't find anything, which means I will probably try and get down there to check it out this weekend.

D-Day wrote:Trey, if you get that amp please do NOT attempt to fasten the transformer with JB Weld. Jesus Christ who would even say that?

Don't worry, I probably wouldn't ever JB Weld an amp together :animal:

Hell yeah. How does it compare to the Ghost Echo?

It's definitely in the same vein as the GE, but I perceive it as wetter. I always felt the GE was a very dry reverb, which is why it works so well with dirt. But the supermoon is wetter and has much longer tails, the modulation is a lil more seasick as well. I think for fuzzed out doomy tones the GE would work alot better, but for clean tones and solos / lead lines the supermoon would wet your panties.

I fucking love that Gaytheist video. I've probably watched it 50 times by now.

Blew a fuse looked at it after I changed it and one of my tubes isn't working, not smoked or anything just doesn't light up. I wonder if this covered in some warranty I feel as though a tube shouldn't be doing that after a month of mild playing. Now I'm relegatd to running my amp at 80 watts, I think I give up on running the amp with 4 tubes something always seems to go wrong and I pay the price.

So Beast in the Field just released a new video for a song off their new album coming out. Since you guys dug the last one I figured I would share it here:

I also got my new guitar in the mail. It is great. I will post some pics once I install the new pickups. I am still waiting for one pickup which will hopefully be delivered tomorrow early so I will have time to install it before the show.

For the reverb, the supermoon caught my attention through those guitar pro shop videos. It makes me want to grab it to stick at the end of my chain but I already have a big board and enough other shit to play with. Although it might be a nice pair with the supernatural reverb.
