Mine was all knob and tube when we bought it. I don't want to tell you what a full rewire, top to bottom costs.....

First thing my brother says is "where do I put the drum kit" whenever saw the basement. He'd have a drum kit covered in backed up sewage if I let that happen.....

My house is all brick, but semi detached. I can still hear my neighbors walking around and shit. I play through a 15w ss fender on 1 still.... Next house Will have the jam room. I got a little studio and record room out of this one, and my wife got a bedroom entirely for clothes......

We kept rejecting houses with 2 bedrooms, our realtor keeps saying "oh for the baby right" and we're like whatever.... no kids for us DINKS

Kids are on the list too. We agreed on two. I don't think we are going to buy a house (we might first do a condo, to get into the whole owning something realm, but easier to relocate if need be) until at least one of the children is born. But we are signing the lease this saturday for the apartment we are currently in for next year through 2014. So one more year of apartment living before we consider other options. At least our apartment has its own door, which is nice

It's funny how folks see living arrangements. We live in a one bedroom apartment with our two year old fuzz head and it's awesome. But we've got two on the way and we decided we need at least an extra room, so we've just bought a two bedroom apartment. Fuzzmunchkin 1 will get the smaller bedroom, we'll be in the master bedroom with fuzzers 2 and 3 when they arrive, then when they're old enough to sleep through the night we'll move out into the loungeroom, divide it off with a fancy bookshelf or something and depending on how everyone gets along we'll live like that for the next 10 years or so, if not longer. The whole apartment is 82 square metres - dunno what you guys use to measure area in houses but google tells me it'll be 880 square feet. Even for Sweden that's pretty fucking compact living, but bugger it, we don't need more space and we don't give a shit about how people expect us to live.

I say condo it up and fucking love it and save your money. At least where we are the housing market is nuts, so I'm really glad we bought in when we did - bought our first apartment four years ago and got almost double what we paid for it when we sold it 2 weeks ago, so that was a good investment, but I'm also glad we bought a small apartment that we could easily afford. It's tight enough trying to combine children and a social life with a love for fuzz; I'm super happy we didn't have an enormous mortgage. And unlike a lot of our friends, we can still make our mortgage repayments even if one of us loses our job - fine we'd have to tighten our belts radically but we could do it. And that's nice for our collective peace of mind.

DINKS is awesome. I was so loaded back in those days... although I think I've bought more gear somehow since getting less disposable income...

Yeah my wife is totally okay with living in a condo for X years before even considering a house. And honestly it's what my mom did with me and my stepdad until I was almost 10 (I lived there from 2-10, so 8 years). She flipped that condo and bought the house they live in now. I think it'll be a nice investment. I just hope I'm around neighbors that don't care about my music and recording like the people that live over us now and stomp their feet

Yeah I live in a condo as well. Really nice to not worry about lawn care and maintenance (especially for me).

Turned my basement into my bedroom and I've been able to just crank my amp and have not yet had any complaints. Look for one with basement and you should be able to play pretty loudly.

That's pretty big for a condo here - owe had one before we bought the house, and it was 585 sq feet (even though Canada is metric, everyone still uses this measurement) and it was TINY for two people and a dog. I dunno what our place is now, but we have a back yard, a front yard, a basement, a porch, etc.... I think it's big enough to live in for a thousand years, my wife thinks we'll outgrow it.... I never want to go through the headache of buying and selling ever again....

Aty least here, the condo market is tanking big time, and you never know when that might happen - Toronto is totally oversaturated and we basically broke even after two years, plus all the cash we paid in condo fees. We originally thought about a bigger condo, but the price of a 800+ sq foot condo + condo fees was actually MORE than a home, because here you pay fees by the square foot. So couple that with lower interest rates and we're basically paying about $200 more than we were in a condo per month....

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go pour bleach into all the drains in my basement and drag a sewage covered blanket into my driveway......

Yup, currently looking for a townhouse or condo to move into in March, basement is major preference.

Yes! I finished RO's Rat + SSStampede yesterday in between Christmas shopping and whatnot.
I want to record a few quick demos before I ship it out tomorrow.

I also am writing up a post for the issues that I am having with the Rocktave side of the dual pedal for Kosta. I'm going to be putting up a thread on DIYStompboxes as it seems like a handful of people have put together the GGG Rocktave board and gotten it to work. Gonna take pictures of my wiring and describe the issues that I am having and see if they can help!

In regards to home ownership, it's kinda weird. Sometimes you have to keep your eyes peeled because good things just fall into your lap.

I wasn't really ready to buy a house until more of my student debt was paid off and I was in a better place with personal debt. I got the personal debt out of the way and have been cursing along on student loans without hiccup. Wifey has been saving all of her cash. We buy a house using only my income to get the loan, meaning we were approved for less than many people. We also told our loan people upfront that we didn't want to go crazy -- I could've been approved for more but we knew that we were putting in an offer on a house that wouldn't sell for all that much since it had been vacant for a few years but still owned by an old Polish lady in a nursing home. When she passed and her son couldn't move in they FINALLY put it on the market.

We took one look on the inside and bam, we were in. All I saw was an old POLISH BASEMENT (tile flooring, looks like it needs or already has a bar, but otherwise totally finished) where I could store gear and kick out the jams.

We fell into a nice neighborhood and got the house at a great deal. We've put in some work because we have certain skills that make bartering better, like family in the heating and cooling business. We specifically looked for houses with older furnaces, knowing we'd be able to easily replace them.

Now we're paying less on our mortgage with property taxes included than we were with our rental previously. Pretty nuts/awesome.

I lucked out by having a wife with some cash in savings but all I'm saying is that it never hurts to have your eyes open. Our house has more space than we need so we rented out the upstairs "master" bedroom as a one bedroom apartment to a friend of ours. We'll put in some work, slight remodels here and there, and then probably flip the house for quite a bit in a few more years when we move.

Man... Got all stoked about buying houses there...
