Farty Flavors!.

TJ that sounds genious. I'd love to get the chance to play one of your guitars some day. To much good stuff going on, was stuck in a silly class all day and then had practice. I'll listen to everything in the morning, I promise! I also can't wait for the muff builds to become reality. Kinda buzzed, its late, logve you all. Doom!

Fucked up my multiquote so here's what I remember.

Skip, that guitar is tits.
AG - Don't really know what I would do. Being in Murica, I am intrigued by the very idea of Simms Watts. I seriously doubt you'd regret the guitar or amp though.

If the neck is set up correctly and there is still buzz, then in my experience either the strings are way to light for the tuning or the frets need some work.
You can check for highspots using a sharpie to color all the frets and then taking a very fine file and passing it back and forth along the length of the neck. This will reveal any low spots and by extension if any of the frets are to high. I use crowning files like these-

and will slowly remove some of the metal from the high frets and will recheck frequently. basically you want to be sure to not remove to much metal as you cant replace it.

Once I am close I use a leveling file to get it dead on and then one last pass with the crowning file over all the frets so that they have the correct curvature where they contact the strings. You don't want the fret to be completely flat.

The files are pretty cheap and can be gotten from ebay for less than stewmac charges. A good investment. I recommend practicing on a basket case cheapo guitar. You might just turn that into a player if you work it right the first time.

Apologies if this is unclear or I explained something wrong, TJ might be better at this than I am ;)

Great post. Learnin something new every day.

Did you file the nut? I use the ends of the strings that usually get cut off and use them as a file for each slot, that way each slot is exactly the size for the string your using, and i just file it until it hits the bottom that the lighter gauge strings usually hit. This is easy on a plastic or graphite but a lil harder on bone or tusq nuts. I was able to get ridiculously low action with my tele using .11-.54 strings, lower then the dearmonds action Ryan is raving about. ;) Oh and BTW its airly normal for tele's buzz with a maple fretboard, its a part of their tone.

I didn't before but I tried this last night and it really helped. I didn't get the G string down quite as far as I needed to but it is way better. The action is lower, and the buzzing is gone. Feels a hundred times better.

Alright, so I got an trade offer for my Geiger Counter yesterday. The BAT Coven. I've been gassing for a Pharaoh for a little while but was kind of in a bit of a toss up as I could definitely use a Black Forest too. I'm not sure I'd be able to fully utilize both, which is why I'm hesitant to take it.

Would I be a fool to turn this down?

sergiomunoz74 wrote:So I was lurking around the ultimate guitar forum and found a guy looking or an amp for sludge/doom. Somehow I got dismissed because I didn't tell him to get a modern orange with channels and reverb unit. Laney be damned they just want splawns and deizels for sludge. Never going back to that scary place again.

So after trading my verbazilla for a tremulous line and then trading thst for a blackout effectors mantra and then trading that for an ocd v3 and damnnnnnn Nick was right ocd plus rat is fucking intense they just mix so perfectly.

 Yeah, they're pretty clueless over there. I've been a moderator of that forum for years now—in Songwriting & Lyrics, Drums and another forum—but I barely post there any more. I do my duties, talk to my friends and that's about it. Diezel and Splawn are decent for Sludge, but there are far better (and cheaper) amps out there that someone can find for that style of music. You have to understand that the bulk of the users there are young lads and lassies. They're all around the age of 17, and thus incredibly inexperienced and snotty. I'm actually one of the older members at 24.

lol TGP does similar stuff. Someone posted about that same kind of topic and the first recommendations were Engl and Diezel.

Seen Swans last night.
Literally the best live band ever known to man.
It was so loud it made me sore. Their tone is amazing, drum sound, everything about them was incredible. I would travel anywhere in the world to see them now. They played for 2 hours.
Some of the things they were doing were mind blowing... Michael Gira's crazy dance moves were actually conducting the band I noticed..
Met them all after the show, VERY funny/down to earth dudes.
