Guh, if it was black I'd consider getting a second one at that price but hot damn when they say headstock repair they mean it! Mine looks like it was just a slight crack, that one looks like it literally snapped off!

Damn, that is a pretty gnarly headstock repair. I keep thinking about putting my '80 SG up for sale, since I never play it and it's in perfect condition wood wise, but I put so much work into refurbishing it I can't let it go.

I could use some opinions from you guys. I'm considering putting my SG up for sale. It's an 80/81 (can't remember off the top of my head, it's the sidejack version, which was only made those two years), it was completely thrashed when I bought it almost 15 years ago and I slowly refurbished it. It had flat frets, dead pickups, painted with yellow house paint, cigarette burns and dents all over. I stripped it down and the mahogany was all perfect and beautiful (couldn't even see the joints in the body). I had a guy reshape the neck very slightly to get the dents out, rebind the neck, refret, new nut, had Marty Bell put a brown burst finish on it to highlight the wood, replaced all the hardware and pickups (SD CustomCustom bridge and Pearly Gates neck) and had it totally rewired. The only original parts on it are the pickguard, trussrod cover and switch/tip and everything else was redone/replaced. Although I was thinking about digging up the original speed knobs and putting them back on. I have no clue what I should set as a reasonable price for it. It's a 30+ year old Gibson with no headstock repair, but it's not original finish or pickups or anything. It wasn't when I bought it anyway, I just refurbished it to what I thought looked nice and got it playable.
Here's an old pic I snapped of it...
Any thoughts? I'm not even completely sure I want to sell it. I almost never play it anymore, but I put so much time and effort into it (took about 3 years from when I stripped it to being finished), I'm right on that balance point of feeling like it might be worth more to ME than whatever cash I could get for it.

Oh poop, daddy likes them big ol shells.
Yeah, the SG has some sentimental value, because of all the effort I put into it. On the other hand, I'm not a very sentimental person when it comes to objects. I don't think it's been out of it's case in at least a year or two and the last time I used it in a band was 5 years ago. Generally if I don't use something, it goes. I generally value the process of doing something more than the memory of it and I have about 4 or 5 more projects lined up that I don't have the money to start.

Yes he does! In Ol' Scratch I used a 26 / 16 / 18 kit and loved it. But those old tamas with that awesome aged finish are just killer, I just wish they were a few hundred cheaper.
I gotcha my friend. You should still be able to get a pretty penny for it, but I have no idea where to start on pricing.

I suppose I could just put it up on CL for a price and then see what offers come in. Reverb lists a cherry 81 SG as being $1100 and up, but I have zero clue if the mods I've made to mine add or take away lol. I hate dealing with CL most of the time here though, it's such a huge waste of time. Most of the people I hear from are super flakey, make appointments and just never show up. If I could I'd just sell it to a friend or someone on here, TB or SRLives.
