Yea, etchin ain't hard but it's a little bit of a pain in ass. But, yea getting it to look fucked up and aged is an easier route but I'm tending to like that aesthetic more these days. Basically, I do any lack of design/graphics in photoshop (creating borders, alignment, etc) and then print of PNP blue, iron, and then etch that shit. I'm gonna do a Brassmaster box and a Fuzzrite today, so I'll make a little video for fun. I like this process better than decals or sticker paper but to each his own. Hand painting would be cool, though...

Those knobs can be had from Mammoth and some other places. The ones from Mammoth are kinda shitty. Inside the shaft where the screw enters the shaft is a bummer. The holes for the set screw must have been drilled from the outside of the knob so there's a bit of tear out inside the shaft around the hole. I have to sand the insides out to get the knob on a pot.
I got some from Mouser at $1.34 a pop and they seem to be made better.
Here's the part number:
450-1171-GRX
I wish Mouser had pic for all their knobs, looks like they have some other decent stuff...

nah I haven't done anything with the fractal thing yet. I want to make a procedural sequencer out of it. something that beeps. not noise. the noise gen is just random.
the soic is the filter on a chip. max7403 I think. it's controlled by vactrol controlled by the microcontroller. I ordered a bunch in dip but mouser sent them in soic instead. gotta use em up!

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
so its a sparkfun soic to dip converter board then. I'll have to look up max7403 and see if I can get them in DIP8. I need a simple lowpass filter knob. I've said it before, that fractal generator sounds really bad ass as direct audio. you could use the same fractal slowed down x4 and use it to sequence the low pass filter. then its a fractal inside a fractal. putting 8 switches to force bits on or off would make the clock audible. that might be cool for a square drone thing. I really want one. maybe we could work out a trade for some fuzz or feedback looper. I'll build you something sick.

A few I've done in the last week (I've been trading out my work a lot lately)

MH (I'm going to ask mammoth if they can start offering this color, sadly it's only available at PPP atm)

Rehoused Keeler Pedal - I'm insisting the owner put a muff in the original enclosure

2 In 1

ZenDrive Clone
Subbed a 4558 for the AD712 as per Madbeans recommendations but it's socketed so should I ever come across an AD712 i'll throw that in there.
Great sounding pedal with a unique feel to it.
On the bench :
-Woolly Mammoth
-Sonic Titan > SHO
-A new dirt section for my pedalboard. In one 1590B enclosure (yet to be decided)

Fixx Fuzz, Fuzzrite variation with a boost on the front end. Still has some kinks that need to be sorted out. Had lots of RF interference at first. Tamed that down a bit, still wasn't cutting it. For the Fuzzrite section I was using a dual GE transistor that sounded great. Decided to take it out and put in some sockets but ended up snappin one of the legs. It's almost there, though. Nice rockin fat sound...

Re: Let's see your finished DIY projects!
Thanks, guys. I spent about 2 hour trying to make a "design" for this box. I was really frustrated and decided to do stencils on paper, take a photo, and do some doctoring in photoshop. Came out much better that way. I think its my favorite one so far. Finishing up a Brassmaster up today for a friend who's band is opening up for Sleep this Sunday. Once I get that done, I need to play music and breadboard and not build!
