Holy shit that was awesome. Everybody ruled. Much noise was made. Tom Dalton builds more pedals than you can imagine. And Ryan Summit and John get all the praise I can possibly muster for putting this together again. Such a fun time. So much good happy noise.

But what the fuck was up with that guy though...

Re: ILFNEM 2015 - JUNE 27th {TOMORROW 12-8} Poughkeepsie, NY
Some thoughts for the future:
Last week I went to Chicago to perform in and experience one of the most amazing shows ever. 50 bands from all over the country, all connected because of an internet music forum. This thing went for days, lifetime friendships and fandoms were made, homemade sausage, homebrews and doobages were enjoyed in abundance, and at least one person probably got laid. Oh yeah and MUSIC like you wouldn't believe. Quite a lot of EGCs and sick amps in use as well.
Now I'm not proposing anything like that scale of a thing, but think about it. The chaos of ILFNEM as far as a combination of free jam and knob twiddle seminars is great, but I know I'm missing out on hearing y'all go to town individually. So many of us have bands or solo projects, and some of you I bet are bedroom virtuosos who just need a little sunlight/strobelight/blacklight and E/etc. to really shine. The thing I just went to was my new band's first show ever, and was so dope partially because there was a built-in highly supportive audience. We could create something inbetween that, the ILFNEM as it is, and I dunno, NAMM without the bullshit? There could be a noise room, a builders room, and a muddafuggin DOOM room.
The thing I went to has been happening for several years, is built on the backbone of a strong Chicago music/social community, and was the product of a great deal of work and organization. We don't have to kill ourselves to make something happen though. Seeing the dedication of folks like magiclawnchair coming from such a distance gives me faith. If we do something more centrally located, have enough enticing bands and builders that people just CAN'T say no, well shit.
With both ILFNEMs, I've felt a little bummed that it couldn't go longer and that peeps had to come and go so soon. If there were accommodations arranged, and enough events and activities, then people could relax, not have to think about driving home right away, and could dip in and out of various parts of the thing without missing too much.
Event-wise, maybe half-hour performances every hour. During the breaks, either people just talk and tweak, or builders/musicians can talk about what they made/what they play. It would be incredibly sick if some performers could play all one builder's stuff. Think about a Dr. Scientist set, a Fuzzhugger set, a Dwarfcraft set. Shit, I know some of you have boards with all one builder. This might be a perfect job for the soloists among us too.
Other events: we could keep a scale next to the stage and have a Heaviest Pedalboard Contest! Builders could run their most intense modulation effects through the PA to the Make Me Seasick contest. Or the Make A Brown Note contest. Submit your subbiest subfrequencies while celebrity judges eat burritos on special chairs. Or the Worst Sound contest. Make the most unpleasant noise possible. This could be judged on how many people go out to smoke. Free cigarettes/doobages by the door.
So a grassroots thing could happen. It would take more than a couple of us to do, but I think both builders and bands could kick it together to make it worth everyone's time. Keep the overhead low and just bring your blems/ unsold one-offs/ ILF-specific pedals for sale. Community merch table for the bands happened at the thing I was just at, and seemed to work out pretty well. I have a bunch of PA equipment and I'm sure we could communally put a brutal backline together. I go to college full-time but if I schedule my time well I can dedicate some energy to running the event, if it's something enough people are interested in contributing to. It could be the greatest thing.

Re: ILFNEM 2015 - JUNE 27th {TOMORROW 12-8} Poughkeepsie, NY
my thoughts exactly
with some serious event planning
it could be a thing
the one thing the brooklyn pedal convntion doesnt have
is a stage or live area setup for band context demo
in esssence, that is all we ever have
you know i would do anything to make it awesome
gettin the fam together is...i dont know...does somethin for me
just not sure how to go about uppin the game
or have the time to do it with just me and you
i'd be happy if it stayed the way it is
but we can have get togethers whenever
what you described is what i have in mind
fuck if i know how to execute somethin like that
i guess we will soon find out if ILFER builders would be into it
the one thing im not sure about though
that i think would be necessary for builders to trek from afar
outside promotion?
lets start another thread about this
lets let this one die with good memories of noise and pizza
before the strategic/logistical debate ensues

I had a great time yesterday. Everyone was so chill. Lots of cool pedals. I can't wait to get a Flangerine.
