Wizard Fountain

Post by elbandito »

Why don't more fuzzmakers add the option of adding some of your clean signal to the fuzz? This is the thing that I enjoy the most about the idea of the Mellowtone Wizard Fountain (I don't own one, so I can't say for certain how great it is). I want a pedal that has two knobs: Clean & Fuzz. Is that too much to ask?

Well, a decent amount do (TAFM, Malekko, etc)...about an amount proportional to the people who want that feature! ;)

Blending in a clean signal is great for bass, but imo it usually just sounds weird for guitar. So I think you see that feature more on fuzzes meant to be used almost specifically for bass (especially if we're talking a fuzz with 2-3 controls...a pedal with 5+ knobs can get away with it since there are plenty of other knobs for guitarists to tweak). Just my assessment! :)

Inless you are running another dirt box into it :poke: to get a layered sound.

But then I'm a bassist so I always look at and for fuzzes with blends, and no, loop-blender pedals are not the same, the buffers in them always muck shit up for me in some way...

I've been drooling over the SuperCollider and the B:Assmaster for some time now but they're out of my price range for the moment.

I have one of these and the "Clean" blend is a little bit exaggerated. It's still awfully fuzzy even at the most "clean" setting. I'd liken it more to adding string/pick dynamics and clarity on the "clean" side and more compression/fuzz on the fuzzier side. Awesome pedal. My favorite Mellowtone and I use it extensively. It's my main distortion tone.
