Oh that Sully. Off topic but why does that guy always get cast into sleezy douchebag roles?
Anyways. I'm not going to read 11 pages...sorry dudes....but I'll give my two cents. I haven't been really able to post or talk much about gear for a while because I haven't had the money, plain and simple. But I've always loved this place for its sense of community. There aren't many forums where we can talk about our nerdy obsessions, make all the outlandish (appropriate or not) jokes we want, share our ups and downs and get advice about just about anything. I haven't really seen or played part in any of the tension that people seem to be bringing up here....but it always seems like it works itself out. Legitimate assholes get called out and taken care of (I'm assuming they leave or get banned ? I dunno) and when anyone steps on someone else's toes it always get solved in a civil way.
I don't like talking about what I've heard other people say without letting on that they said it first. I don't know how many people here like or hate him, but Joe Rogan is big on reiterating (in his standup and on his podcast) that when people are trying to be funny, they say shit that they don't mean. Granted that when you're reading something you might miss out on some cues that you could only read in person, but are we reeeally going to believe that so-and-so is a misogynist or homophobic or anti-women or whatever because so-and-so make a dick/pole/boob/butt/poop/whatever joke? Humor is humor because it makes fun of things. It makes fun of differences, hang-ups, and most of all, people who take themselves way too seriously. To me, it's usually pretty clear-cut when someone is joking or when they're being an asshole.
I notice that like 5 replies have been made while I was typing this, so: that Stephen Fry quote sums this up. Here in america at least (don't think that I'm being a super-patriot or something) "freedom of speech" means you get to say what you want, NOT "you have the freedom to not be offended."
Anyways, y'all are cool.
I took one look at the pole and knew right away what was going to win.

More and more often I have found myself typing up a response to something, looking at it a while, and then just deleting it and closing ILF. I'm not even a particularly offensive person. I'm 'inclusive' as fuck. People get offended by everything though - and ILF isn't even that bad relative to most places.

I write stuff and then delete it and that's enough for me. It's cathartic. Everything I write is wank anyway

what kind of thing are you typing? and you dont post because you think people/person will be offended? (ie, claim to be offended) in what way?jfrey wrote:More and more often I have found myself typing up a response to something, looking at it a while, and then just deleting it and closing ILF. this is the 'let it all out' thread, so you may as well go for it

Re: Do you love ILF and it's members? heh...members.
i havent been members of millions of forums, but i've found ilf to be the most open and tolerant that i can think of, by far.
either its happening in other parts than i read, but there is very little anger and arguments and general rudeness.
or when there is it seems to dissipate very quickly in (hopefully) a non resentful way
since i've been here all i can remember is the short lived mason jar guy, the birth of ug (cough cough), and there was the guy who's name i cant remember who always seemed to be the verge of a drunken car crash.

that's a pretty offensive thing to say about most places dude. children, women and people of various ethnicities and religions are all found in most places.jfrey wrote:More and more often I have found myself typing up a response to something, looking at it a while, and then just deleting it and closing ILF. Lol. I could never do that. Pizza is like the backbone of my life.D.o.S. wrote:he's worse -- he's a paleo dieter!
To be honest I can't remember specific examples. But I'm more concerned with data and reasoning being sound than with issues or positions themselves. For some reason that seems to upset people more. I really don't understand having personal feelings about non personal things though so I know I'm missing the point somehow. The way people react to things seems soap opera-ish to me. When people have strong feelings about things I feel like it's entirely possible that they could just fly off the handle one day for no reason and like start killing people or something.Doctor X wrote:What kind of thing are you typing? and you don't post because you think people/person will be offended? I know right? like it really offends me that you don't say things because you feel you might offend which then they might offend you by being offended starting a cycle of ultimate.... boredomjfrey wrote:More and more often I have found myself typing up a response to something, looking at it a while, and then just deleting it and closing ILF.
