A good friend of mine is heading to Baruch College for 2 weeks as part of her master's and she's trying to find a sofa to rent for 2 weeks - from the 4th - 18th of July. Her attempts thusfar in finding somewhere have failed, so I told her not to worry, I hang out on a guitar forum.

Anyways, if anyone wants some company for 2 weeks in NYC or Manhattan hit me up!

That’s quarter-assed at best.
It's definitely not me masquerading as a female friend. Just so that we're all clear on that. But if anyone wants, pm me and I will send you pics of myself. Dressed up. You know what I'm talking about.
Also, if people doubt the general awesomeness of my friends and don't want to offer their actual couch for rent I'd be happy for a line to like a local couch surfer website thinger or any links or whatever that foreigners may find useful but not know of. Apparently New York is not a happy place for those trying to find accommodation within the realms of affordability.

Tell her to try studenthousing.org . I stayed at the St George some 15+ years ago, wasn't great, wasn't cheap, but there's worse places for more money. I know they have a new-ish spot round my way on the UES/EastHarlem border that is a)probably cheaper than some of their other options and b) depending on which grad program she's in it's 1.5 blocks from the subway she'll need.
And depending on her sense of adventure, there's some not entirely unacceptable hostels within walking distance of Baruch. Most will offer a variety of options - bunk beds, private rooms with shared bath, private room with an en suite.
What ever she does, where ever she stays, my strongest bit of advice - tell her to prepare for bedbugs. Bring essentially disposable clothes, stuff she doesn't care about burning after. Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
If it was like 2 weeks earlier we could have potentially rented a room to her, but alas.
West Harlem is what's up though. Took me 40 minutes to get to Baruch (send her my condolences for having to deal with those glue sniffers), and it's still relatively cheap. That studenthousing site is suuuuupppper overpriced.
