This is a good idea. I always have questions that don't have a thread but aren't really worth starting a thread for either.

Here is my first one...one that I know other people have asked me, but I have been stumped on it for years. What the heck fuzz pedal does Phil Free use in Crass? I know he used a Burns Bison (at least in the pictures I have seen, not common pics either). This is one of my favorite guitar tones and it's always been kind of a mystery. The era is late 70s to early 80s if you don't know Crass. Supposedly the instruments were stolen or found, but I don't know that I believe that. The second guitar is just playing random notes...Guesses are totally cool. Just point me in the right direction.

Good eye man. I knew it was something like that, but would have never of guessed a Roland. Makes sense. Though on second look, that could be an amp switch. The fuzz does sound more gated at points and piercing than the Bee Baa clones I have played. I guess technique, amp, guitar, could do that too.

Maybe Palmer, but not the lead stuff. Maybe they did in the studio at Dial House later (Yes Sir I Will). Crass was too influenced by Kraut Rock and hippie stuff to not use something. Rimbaud was in EXIT and was part of the early years of the Stonhenge festival.

Eh, saw the free form jazz spoken word thing with Penny and Eve last year. Glad I could see Crass finally die.

Strange how my brand new samsung tablet doesn't scale pictures correctly. I've had that happen before. But my older moto x keeps things looking way nicer. Both are Android with chrome.

Truck Loud, Demo Tape Fuzz, LAL Steroid O.D.(even though it was just discontinued) , Interstellar Overdriver?

UG's demo of the truck loud showed a little dirt with the higher gain. I know the Steroid O.D. gets a little dirty, it has a limiter, and has two different tone circuits. It is pretty mild and but it gets a little grit at the high gain settings.

Maybe something like a preamp with a gain and master control? Like this one?

I honestly meed to stop looking at dirt pedals, I wont have an amp for a long time and nothing is gonna sound good direct. And yeah I has Mini

I just tried the Steroid OD into my Sunn Beta Lead with my wife's squier jazz bass. It was a pretty underwhelming. It didn't give enough grit and it was kind of mushy.

I thought of the MASF Starry Wisdom.

Maybe a preamp is the way to go? Those Verellen ones look nice, too.
