Thanks guys, I've been feeling a little discouraged by the lack of progress we've had on getting our older cats and the new guy to get along. I think when I get home tonight I'm going to let them mingle freely again and see what happens.

It doesn't happen right away. They just need to sort out the pecking order. You just have to make them realise the boss at your house is the missus.

whats the house layout?
make sure there are enough places for them each to have their own, on top of cupboards, boxes in corners, things like that.

cats arent pack animals and often get stressed by too much proximity to others and lack of privacy/hiding place

50% of the orange cats that I've had contact with are complete bastards. If yours is nice, great!

Too bad a Get Along Shirt won't work for cats.

27?!?! If that's true then you've got the oldest current living cat beat by 3 years!

Also don't worry about getting them to get along. Recently had to re-introduce my 2 old cats after one had to go under anaesthesia for a bad tooth. Brought him home and my other cat sniffed him then went fucking crazy and wouldn't quit growling like a maniac near him. Kept them separated for a few days until he smelled normal and then they got along again.

Just keep him in a separate room and try to feed both cat parties near the door so they can smell each other. Cracking the door while they eat can help too. Had to do this with my girlfriend's cats too. At least it's easier than getting rabbits to bond to each other.

My cat, Taco, is orange and super nice. He will stand over you and meow in your face and drool with anticipation for the pets. I would REALLY like to see a cat get along shirt, haha.
