Trans people have to deal with so much bullshit that I can't even fathom, so I think it's best to err on the side of empathy here.

I also think it's dangerous to say she did something stereotypical of a trans person, because even if maybe she did do that, and even if you have enough personal experience with trans people to be able to say that comfortably, random people on the internet are going to read what you say and potentially misinterpret it.
In my opinion it's far safer to avoid saying something like that just because of how easily that sort of thing is taken completely out of context.
All that does is give more ammunition to people who already are biased against trans people, even if you are not.

brian, you don't have to apologise for adding the post. it is relevant and of interest

john, i don't believe that you are some kind of 'phobic' and i didnt read your comment that way.

the reason trans stuff comes up is because devi brought it up. and devi puts it at the forefront of everything. i'm fully aware of all the traumas and issues involved, but its also a very handy shield for devi to hide behind to deflect from personal actions.
i have every sympathy for the ongoing life crises that devi is obviously going through, but gloating about making a donation to some self indulgent 'cause' when you owe people money is pretty shabby. those people have got their own issues and their own life worries to deal with, and they didn't make a personal 'donation' to devi, they made an investment in the console project.

Thank you! I agree, and not just in a self-serving way.

I heard the whole vitriolic GamerGate lot were hurling crap at Devi, so this'll explain where that's coming from.

Given the narrative of the whole 'movement' or whatever it is, it doesn't surprise me that they'll dredge up the Console debacle and try to tie it into FemFreq or whatever they're hating at that moment to give themselves an excuse to fling shit at anyone who's not 'with' them (mostly women, trans women, or anyone who doesn't say nice things about them)

Considering the way others have been hounded with death threats, doxxed, SWATted (which is a terrifying concept) - regardless of people's issues with Devi in the guitar pedal world, she, or anyone, does NOT deserve the crap coming from this (which is probably more unrelated to her fuzz days than the article wants to admit).

I don't follow gamer culture and I don't follow devi anymore, but here's the weird thing…Last time I saw anything from devi, she was on twitter railing against this Sarkeesian lady. I mean, it was post after post about how disingenuous she was. And now, she is giving her money and making a big deal out of it? Weird.

Of course, at this point, devi has crossed that threshold where anything she does wouldn't surprise me and so it's hard to attach any value to it either.

I'm just gad I didn't fund the kickstarter. I really wanted to. I thought it was a cool idea. But, I've got a policy against paying pedal builders up front for mass produced pedals, simply because experience has shown me that even the "reliable" guys rarely meet their deadlines. I knew how flaky devi was, so I figured I'd just wait and buy one when/if they ever hit the market.

Fuck GamerGate. I'd love to curb-stomp the whole lot of them. And it's not because I support the other side. Fuck those guys too. It's so eye-rolling that the whole war began because a dude got cheated on by his girlfriend. I know that's not 100% true, buuuuuuut it is a big part of it. Everyone just needs to sit down and relax. It's only videogames people... videogames!

I could definitely extend this rant, but............. :deep breaths: ...... It's just this group is fighting so hard for journalistic integrity in the gaming industry, yet they keep fabricating this paranoid drivel filled with half truths. I just don't understand how they get "Ms. Lynn has decided to donate the contents of her Kickstarter account to none other than Feminist Frequency personality and anti-GamerGate pundit Anita Sarkeesian" out of a tweet from Devi saying the proceeds came from her "first gamedev gig." The sources of income are completely unrelated. But I'm sure they just got confused because Devi's Kickstarter was videogame influenced. Yeah, that's it.

I agree with everything you said up until this:

A debt is a debt is a debt. Devi owes a shitload of money to a shitload of people. She got some money somehow, I don't give a shit how. And apparently it was disposable money, because she gave it away. Instead of sending this disposable money to the people she is indebted to, she donates it to a person/cause. That is fucking bullshit, and I have no problem with anyone calling out that kind of bullshit move, regardless of how shitty their underlying motives are in calling it out.

Ok, to clear up some BS...

The article is full of shit. She didn't take KS money to give it to Anita. She spent that money 18 months before any of the GG/anti-GG shit happened. I am not excusing her behavior with the KS money, but the article is misleading to say the least. It is almost as bad as the one that said she took her KS money and got her reassignment surgery done. I know some of you will say she should put every penny she has toward her debt, but we don't get to choose what she does, so at least be accurate with your complaints if you're gonna make them.

Furthermore, to speculate on the status of ANY transperson's genitals is kinda gross. Not any of your business whether she has or has not had reassignment surgery.

In happier news, we are working on getting the pedal replacements out the door in the coming months. If you asked for a pedal replacement, we will be helping her accomplish that. I was hoping she could just take care of the whole mess on her own, but between her depression and GG, we stepped in to help a bit. You will get an email when you pedal ships, which will be done in monthly batches.

I hope that helps clear things up. If you have other questions, feel free to ask them.

And quit jumping on the dude who said he was over DE:FX : ) We didn't take over because DE:FX was in super great shape and everything was perfect. We inherited some messes and some people who don't want to support what the company came to be. We get it. Hopefully, some of the new stuff we put out this year (NON-FUZZ) will help to change some minds, but if not, that is ok.
