that makes sense. anybody have the definitive answer of what makes the TAFM tick? maybe this is a question for the ss/bs subforum, i cant seem to find the answer searching anywhere.

I swear I read that it was a fuzz face variant. I could be way off though. Its gone through so many iterations though that its probably way removed from whatever it was based on at this point.

UG, if you get a chance, try a new version. I believe its a little brighter. Still synthy and bassy, but with a bit more up top. I actually flipped it for that reason, and then a couple months later bought it back for the same reason.


Also, I'm not sure if your version has an internal trim or dip switches, but if so, they're worth tweaking.

Yeah turning off the buffer makes a pretty noticeable difference to the sound, it's darker like the older one I had. But I've grown used to the new, and now I think it's better. It still does the same sounds, just gotta have the input and shape turned lower to get the same effect. Plus gate! Definitely an improvement.

I keep mine with the gate always on, pregain at zero, shape around 10-10:30. I keep the clean at unity and the fuzz volume slightly above it and keep it at the end of my chain. Awesome alone and even more awesome after any of my other dirt. Thickens things up and gives it a synthy bite. I love it.

Its also fun with the fuzz at zero, gate off, and the pregain cranked for a nice OD.

well, no dip switches, blue boxes with what appear to be adjustable screws....over my head here. there are $$$$$ and a Who loves Fuzz?? also says this is version 3.6pnp 2010.

There is actually plenty of upper frequency energy, a LOT. that's why i've found it better suited to my baritone and bass VI.

yeah it says bias by the top one. thanks for the input i'm going to assume these are the two trimpots neon posted about but maybe to be safe i'll contact Brian and make sure they were meant to be user adjusted.

I found it best to run a loop through my V2 TAFM as I was adjusting the trimpots gradually and recording the output. Listening to the recording afterward really helped; it's easy to take it from awesome-sounding to kind of shitty if you're just going at them randomly.

Thats a great idea I think i'm still miles away from needing to make any internal adjustmetns I've only had the pedal for a little over a week now and am still finding amazing sounds as is.
