It's getting less tough. I finally was able to identify the year range of the kit to 89-93. In 89 they used "hardwood" with a coating on the inside, in 90-93 they used 8 plies of mahogany with an inner ply of birch. The 90-93 kits sound beast, while the 89 is bleh. So I emailed him asking if they were coated inside or not (the inside of the kick drum from what i can see is bare wood so I'm hopeful), if they're aren't I'm picking them up this week end and ordering my huge ass Sabian APX cymabl set (15" HH, 24" ride, and two different 20" crashes). Shit this set is cheaper and has hardware so I might even have some money left over to buy backups cause their on crazy clearance through musiciansfriend.

I think I have that exact Pearl kit and I love it. I'm more of a guitar player so I can't comment in too much detail about it though. I like it better than the 70's acryl Tama I had before, especially for the kick. I'm only using the 18" floor and the 14" Tom right now. Paid 400 euros for it without hardware (only a garbage kick pedal) and thought it was a good deal, so I'd say $600 with the hardware + double kick pedal is a pretty sweet deal too.

Good to know!!! I actually am getting it for $550 so I'm pretty happy. And I plan on running it like your setup 24 / 14 / 18!
