Melodic hardcore is shit, though. Also a terrible name.
Mind you, there is a lot piled under doom that is not the same. Genres are ridiculous usually.

Emo and doom are really similar though if you find the right bands..? Odd tunings, tons of volume, tons of effects use, etc... I play in bands on both ends of the spectrum for the most part.

I think a lot of bands that started out lumped in the mid 2000s emo rut went on to do good stuff. Thursday and Brand New are good examples. Im surprised BN dont get a little more love around here. Daisy was loaded with toanz.

The OC 'Hardcore' scene and the various 'screamo' scenes from the turn of the century are total low points. At The Drive-In was, no exaggeration, the only good band you could reasonably lump in to that idea, and they spent their whole tenure being ignored because white-belt bitches (of all genders) have exactly zero taste.

Brand New is so good. Been a personal top 5 band for years. (Daisy was weak though imo)
