Vocal practice ideas?
I think Id like to practice using my voice some more, but I don't think that my neighbors would appreciate it. I need VOLUME to sound "ok." I dont have a practice space, so other than my car, what do y'all think? It would be neat, if feasible, to build something to help with this. I'm envisioning some kind of cardboard and foam contraption. . .
Unless you have a simpler idea.

Cardboard & foam would muffle the sound a little bit, but not much.
Building an sound-proof booth would be better.
How much do you wanna spend?

Uhhh. I need to be pretty thrifty. I work in a grocery store, so I can pretty much get all the cardboard, foam, egg crates, and packing material could ever want. It sounds ridiculous, but I was thinking of something that I could hang from my ceiling sort of like the top half of a phone booth. I have a closet-ish area in my studio apartment where I could do it I guess.

Well, if you're getting all the building materials for free, you might as well try to build something. The only thing you'll expend is time.
I'm sure you'll be able to find some instructions somewhere online.

Re: Vocal practice ideas?
I've found that timing is the biggest issue with roommates/fellow tenants.
I live in a house with 4 other dudes because the price is right. We butt heads on so many issues, but noise is never an issue because we're all just smart about when we make it. If you wanna practice singing I'd say the safest times to do so are from 11am - 10pm. With consideration to take a break between 4-6pm when people are arriving home from work. I know that when I get home from school I want to veg out for 30 min before rehearsal or a practice sesh. I don't want to hear excess noise if I don't have to.

A friend and I once recorded him screaming at 2 AM.
We did this by wrapping a comforter around his head and the mic.
It kinda worked?
But that's probably not the best long-term method...
Or short-term.

If your worried about disturbing neighbors or roommates, go to a place with good acoustics/reverb, like the men's room at the mall. Now, a great exercise is to stand in the middle of the room and chant "Allsuh Kyurkoc". After an hour or two, your throat will have gotten a good workout.

Building a contraption would be a waste of time. You already got the car, rock the shit out of it

yeah probably for the best. I figure that my drive to work is maybe 15 minutes, so that times 10 in a week should be pretty good. I'd like to be able to record myself somewhere to hear what I need to work on.
