Re: Death By Audio love?
Had the Fuzz War for a few years now. Always been thinking "Why on earth would they put the gain inside as a trim pot? Lunacy!", and now of course they've made the three-knob version.
I don't use it as much as I used to; it's not even on my board atm.

Imo, every fuzz pedal will benefit from external volume control, no question. Not necessary if you plan on setting and forgetting and your amp is always at the same level and you never switch guitars. Otherwise, output will fluctuate based on settings and you'll wish you didn't have to open it up every time.
Have you found an available 2-knobber? Not that common now days....

Yeah, found an available two knob version. I think I would like a three knob but can only find that at full retail. Is $180 for the two knob reasonable?

Not too shabby when you're talking DBA. Their stuff is plain expensive!

are you talking about the Soundwave Breakdown or the Fuzz War?the5chord wrote:Yeah, found an available two knob version. I think I would like a three knob but can only find that at full retail. Is $180 for the two knob reasonable?
For the Breakdown, you'll save alot if you wait for an ebay auction. The two knobbers have been going for around $100 recently.

$100 is a pretty good price! Maybe I should hold off for a better price. I will have to sumo on the will power to resist this GAS!

Has anyone who has tried the apocalypse compared it to a russian big muff? I the arc big green pi but the apocalypse looks like it could stand in for it and more.

Re: Death By Audio love?
I have the Apocalypse, it's killer. Way more gain on tap than the Big Green Pi but can easily be backed off and get pretty close. Contains the Fuzz War and Octave clang settings along with three others and a frequency control gives it quite a bit of variety.

I want build a Soundwave breakdown really badly. I need some more quirks in my fuzz. The SB always stood out from most of the other DBA stuff. The Fuzz War I used to have had lots of fucking character. DBA gets crapped on a lot but I dig that they are unconventional despite the price. The interstellar overdrive supreme I had was def not worth $320.

You can borrow mine sometime if you wanna check it out firsthand. Just email me about it if interested.LaoWiz wrote:I want build a Soundwave breakdown really badly. I need some more quirks in my fuzz. The SB always stood out from most of the other DBA stuff.
Currently own the Soundwave Breakdown, Apocalypse, Echo Dream, Robot, and a Glass Hero Armageddon clone with sick fucking LaoWiz enclosure.the5chord wrote:Ha what DBA pedals don't you have?
Over the years I've owned and sold an Interstellar Overdriver Supreme, Octave Clang, Kill Kill Filter, Sunshine Reverberator and Supersonic Fuzz Gun.
Out of all those, the SB and Armageddon clone are my faves. The Echo Dream is great as well.

Ever time I'm like "maybe I should sell the KKF" I plug it in and go "why the fuck would I sell this?"
It has soooooo much low end it's awesome.
