Absolutely nothing else pairs with a beanie and flannel in the summer except tight rolls...

I do it because I can't find a pair of pants that is the perfect length. Either I get slightly long pants and cuff them or I wear high water pants.

Re: Am I a Hipster?
but are yours painfully tight? It's definitely a look thing. the bands I've seen that do that look like they all dress the same, jump around a lot and kinda suck.
The worst was a bass player with a meatsmoke, rick, cool looking board and somehow made it sound bad. like that combo should not be capable of sounding weak but that guy did it, and very enthusiastically

I wear straight leg jeans and that's about it. The only time they are "tight" is when I gain weight... I can't stand not having a full range of moment.

Yeah man I'm the same way. I gotta MOVE! Kinda like to let the boys breathe a bit to. That looks like it would be awfully uncomfortable

Re: Am I a Hipster?
The problem I have with being called a hipster is that anything and everything I do gets me labeled as such. I can't dress up and look nice and business fresh, I can't look like shit either, and god forbid that I wear a hat of any kind. It's really rampant in my area and just plain annoying.
Everyone can't get past the idea that someone may like something for reasons other than being hip.
My boys are a little more cramped than I'd like, but it is miles better than just swinging around with nothing to keep 'em in check. I cannot stand boxers anymore, boxer briefs all the way!

That's what I try to do, it's just annoying hearing it all the time. I wore an old Metallica shirt today (...And Justice For All tour) and apparently you can't wear old t-shirts without it being a hip new thing.

then ask them who sets the criteria. Is it their mom? And speaking of the irony for which I'm (you're) so famous, I (you) got up close and personal with their mom's hips last night, therefore, busted: hipster it is.

I do not equate fashion with style. It's possible to be stylish but not fashionable, because the latter implies that you're doing what some form of media says is cool. In my neck of the woods, that how I use the H word. For people who can't give an intelligent response as to why they like something (usually responding with a witty response as to why "it's so cool" instead of an actual reason), whilst simultaneously proclaiming non-conformity and dressing like scores of other people they hang out with.

Re: Am I a Hipster?
What I take from this whole hipster thing is do whatever the fuck you want, it doesnt matter what you do, and as long as you're good at it, people will like you for doing it. Which I kinda dig, but I don't care anymore. I prefer to think of myself as man displaced in time; a postmodern man. Which is kinda what this whole hipster thing is: people apropriating cultural artifacts that they don't necessarily understand, in an attempt to gain recognition and social status.
It seems to me that a hipster is someone who pretends to be a part of a scene because they think it will get them positive social recognition. So, when we out people as hipsters we are trying to out them for presenting a fake image to the world because they are too boring to create a personality of their own. So yeah, people who have some notion of what is "cool" but are insecure about themselves, will likely arbitrarily use the term hipster to slag off anyone trying to do something "cool," because there's no way anyone's "cool"er than you. Nope. I'm beyond labels anymore. Beyond 1984, beyond 2001, beyond life, beyond death: Zardoz. (man I'm in a weird mood right now
