It wasn't bad. Pretty sure it hasn't made it's money back yet though.

Kind of tough to agree on what we mean by "overrated". Critically overrated? Box-office gross overrated? Idiots enjoyed it-overrated?

People are calling action movies and horror overrated. I've never seen serious critics give huge props to Fast and the Furious or Saw. So, how can they be overrated?

that said, I agree on 2001: A Space Odyssey. Talk about self-indulgent molasses incarnate. OMG. Let's watch a space ship move across the screen for 14 minutes. It was definitely ahead of its time, but MAN was it boring.

Oh, and the rash of comic book movies are getting pretty tiresome.

I'm out.

Yah, I'm not a Brad Pitt fan. He is in alot of movies that are good, but he's not what's good in them - to me.

I love 2001: A Space odyssey. I can't think of one bad thing to say about it. It's extremely slow, but I like that; alot of action movies move crazy fast and it's unreal. Slower films like 2001, Marooned, Eraser head, Citizen Kane, The Shinning, and Mulholland Drive let you breathe everything in and see all of what is happening. I like slower films because they let me settle into them, the same as when I go out to eat, when I'm done eating I like to sit for a while and relax.

I think the best musical comparison is that of Jazz. I love jazz, I know some people hate it or "just can't get into it." It doesn't meld with them.

I also think "The Blair Witch project" is crazy overrated, everyone I asked about basically said it was the best Witch movie ever blah blah. I thought it was okay.

That's because you were, what, five when it first came out?

Blair Witch is/was one of the great no-budget success stories of the modern (post-internet) indie film era. The people behind it really nailed a whole lot of stuff that many, many people spend years and years and years trying to capture, and they did it pretty effortlessly. It signaled the paradigm shift towards social media marketing that's everywhere now....
But, it's still a $60,000 movie. And it looks like it.

World War Z made its money back domestically, and another 200 million internationally, and Brad Pitt is an awesome actor who shines best as the second lead.

David Lynch is my boy. Blue Velvet has one of the best intro sequences of any film ever.

The Departed is overrated for two reasons--one is Scoresese's other films, which are masterpieces. The other reason is that it's a product of it's time--it was the first movie to really do cell phones right (cannot overestimate how important that it), but technology has evolved so much that it seems dated now.

This is the bit where I return my cinematic Ying-Yang Twin(z) behnders' hug.

Think he's doing 2 Avatar sequels, that should keep him busy for the next 10 years at least.
