Keep playing with it. The tone controls are very interactive and are definitely going to behave differently depending on what diode setting you choose.
Also, volume at noon is not really going to cut it. Push them shits up to 1:30 or 2:00 and stand back, preferably in front of a loud tube amp.
Special low-frequency version.

I was actually referring to the GC in terms of output. It could get harsh enough that too much volume was a bad thing. I definitely put the Pharaoh through it's paces though. My favorite settings involved no diodes and maximum volume. But I'll give them a few extra yoinks for good measure. :thumb:

I've found the tone controls to be VERY dependent and interactive with the rest of you circuit. I run 3 amps and 4 dirt pedals and the pharaoh is the one I adjust for trimming the high end or adding to it.

i totally agree with both of these points. i also find that where this pedal sits in your signal change makes a huge difference, especially if you are trying to get some crispness to the sound.

I've found that pushing it with a boost/od really opens it up, depending on what you're looking for. Took me a while to get it dialed in with my setup as well, but now I love it. Shits rainbows.

That...a boost before hand...just a slight one makes the Pharaoh pop huge.

as far as the tone settings, i find that the tone all the way off and high knob all the way up and the lo/hi switch set to High gets a really nice mid heavy fuzz that cuts through the mix really well.

I've had a Pharaoh and Black Forest. The BF just jived with my set up better (Monson Redemption ---> Laney VH100R). Lately I've been boosting it with an HM2 and it's just ridiculous.

Bit late to the partaaaayyyy but I have owned both pedals and thought I would offer my opinions:

Firstly, Dr. Scientist is soon to be releasing an EQ that essentially has the same features, plus more, as The Elements but without all the distortion. You'll have a clearer EQ range and a cheaper price.

Secondly, the Pharaoh sounds GREAT when it's past level volume. In fact, if you want to push an amp into overdrive it's one of the best pedals out there. It takes to boosting a dirty channel well also. The Black Forest works well for this same purpose but is a little tighter and bright. This means it's great for chugga chugga if you're into that kind of guy. Palm mutes work reasonably well with both pedals but the BF has a little more aggression and less flub, thus acting more competently in that field. The depth control works like an Orange amp. I'd say most people have specified and detailed this already. It's really handy in dialling in a balance between midrange cut and low-end thump.

Overall, the Pharaoh is a dark, muffled... Muff with a beautiful sweet spot in the midrange. It boosts an amp perfectly but is not clean and is not cutting. The BF is similar but cuts more clearly and articulately.

I'm doing this with a DLS MkII and it gets me ridiculously excited. Sounds like Trap Them.

I'm gonna be doin this when Nick drops that Left Hand Path. Glad to hear that idea I had is actually a reality and does indeed kick ass!
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!

BF definitely good for the chugs, as AG said.

Had another dick around with the BF-->PDX thang today.
So much Static Tensions worship to be had.

yeah I use to boost the Pharaoh with the DLS...but i've now found that with my SLOstortion before the Pharaoh, if i leave the boost on all the time i get a similar tone...not the same...but similar and a little cleaner.

Thanks dudes! I haven't been screaming for long so that's good to hear. Now to get my stereo rig up and running to add some sweet Ampeg VH140C chunk under that sound.
