In other news, I sold my Ric copy. Kinda sad, but after doing the math, buying that '90 Tuxedo Ric and one other yet to be named piece of rad gear, I had to do it. Sounds like it will be going to a good home, though.
Dude, that tuxedo Ric is the fucking bomb. If they made a guitar as sexy as that, I'd sell all my shit for one. In fact, its got me thinking of switching to bass. Totally worth it. Unnamed rad gear ey? C'mon, you know you can't drop that shit around here without piquing our collective interest. 'Sides, whats more rad than that Ric, and your bandmate's new communist death-computer (it looks like an old military valve machine from a James Bond villain's space dock or some shit) ?????
In due time, sir! I'm sworn to secrecy at the moment, but August is gonna be a good month for G.A.S.

Dang. This must be huge. Tuxedo basses and old SW heads getting dropped all over the shop, and you've got a secret weapon? Dude....did you buy a dumble?
WWPD?

So I sold my Timeline a couple of weeks ago on eBay and a few days later the seller said there was some problem with it making strange noises. I used it all if them time and never had a single issue. I wondered if something happened during shipping or if he was just pulling some bullshit move. Well, I got the pedal back today and he obviously saved and named (I never named my preset...he even misspelled one) some of the presets and I can't figure out what the hell he was talking about. It sounds perfect to me. I don't know how much more or how else to test it but it seems absolutely perfect so I'm gong to relist it. I feel kind of strange and I certainly don't want to sell a lemon but I also can't figure out what his deal was if he was lying about the noises. At most I think he might have tried to power it with too little current but I don't know. Any ideas?
need a housesitter? ill keep yer tubes warm since its early and half ILF aint awake yet what amp do you use at home nick? is it one of yours or do you rock some secretely awesome vintage first act
AxAxSxS wrote:It'll be worth the wait. I went from sometimes AB, to mostly AB to always on AB. I'll be really surprised if you don't like it. I put mine between the pharoah and oath and it add som much definition without loosing any of what those pedals do. It's also awesome as a standalone which is how D uses it.
On to the SIMMS-WATTS-PORNOGRAPHY!!!! Not my pics but it is now my amp
I was amazed at how clean it is, looks like new aside from a few minor spots. I do wish I had the faceplate, maybe I could get one made? I probably spent to much on it but my negotiation skills went to shit when I started trying it out.
congrats on the new baby! looks very clean man...thats a great score.

I love compression when mixing but the only thing I could ever get out of compressor that sounded at all appropriate was that choppy funk sound but that wasn't what I was really looking for. I always end up killing my attack and while I'm looking to balance out my sound I can't lose attack. I've found that cranking those power tubes provides a much more natural compression that just works better for me. Other people seem to get it to work for them though so maybe I'm just missing something.
i'd never had a compressor until about 6 months ago, and now i can't live with out it. Initially i didn't think it did anything but now its something that i can never turn off and when i do i instantly notice it. I currently have a MXR custom comp which gives me control over the attack, so that part is quite free, but then it sustain's chords for ages.
While on the subject of comps, i gave into my GAS and ordered this Comp to replace my current one:
Between the EGC and the Electric on 10(volume, gain is usually between 9-11 o'clock) and fairly large strings (14-68), I can get a lot of clean sustain. Those Stephen O'Malley chords where you like the high strings chime out just go on and on. What I was thinking of using the compressor for was to even things out when I do hybrid picking because the dynamics can be a bit hard to control but I've resolved myself to making that a practice issue and not a gear one.
Main is so beautiful. Sometimes I miss the east coast but then I go to Port Townsend or just hit the coast out here and Its like going home.
I use the compression on the boss gt-10. I find that setting it to have minimal effect doesnt really interfere with dynamics that much and just makes everything sound bigger.

yeah its good to even things out...but also as Ax says...i find that the compressor does make things sound bigger as well...i guess it heavily depends on the band dynamic and also the gear you use.
