i got it straight a few months ago
and started bowing it in
and lowering the saddle
i thought i was almost there
until i saw the dearmond
i know not every guitar can be like super low
but at this point i think im still in very high territory
maybe not
i think also i pick and strum like an animal
so its gonna buzz a bit nomatter what the actions like
theres a few things on the list before a pro setup
like gettin my verb fixed
what really matters is my rig as a whole sounds awesome
the freakin acoustic/peavey is the best
bottom line
the randall/emperor side rules too
id bbe happy with either
but i got both .....muddddafuckahhhhs

Use a metal straight edge to check if it is really straight. You don't totally want it to be 100 percent straight. I found this pic with a quick search that illustrates what I mean-

Image

If the neck is set up correctly and there is still buzz, then in my experience either the strings are way to light for the tuning or the frets need some work.
You can check for highspots using a sharpie to color all the frets and then taking a very fine file and passing it back and forth along the length of the neck. This will reveal any low spots and by extension if any of the frets are to high. I use crowning files like these-
Image

and will slowly remove some of the metal from the high frets and will recheck frequently. basically you want to be sure to not remove to much metal as you cant replace it.

Once I am close I use a leveling file to get it dead on and then one last pass with the crowning file over all the frets so that they have the correct curvature where they contact the strings. You don't want the fret to be completely flat.

The files are pretty cheap and can be gotten from ebay for less than stewmac charges. A good investment. I recommend practicing on a basket case cheapo guitar. You might just turn that into a player if you work it right the first time.

Apologies if this is unclear or I explained something wrong, TJ might be better at this than I am ;)

Did you file the nut? I use the ends of the strings that usually get cut off and use them as a file for each slot, that way each slot is exactly the size for the string your using, and i just file it until it hits the bottom that the lighter gauge strings usually hit. This is easy on a plastic or graphite but a lil harder on bone or tusq nuts. I was able to get ridiculously low action with my tele using .11-.54 strings, lower then the dearmonds action Ryan is raving about. ;) Oh and BTW its airly normal for tele's buzz with a maple fretboard, its a part of their tone.

I'm just gonna leave this here...its not great, but I'm really stoked with the lead guitarist joining the band...things are starting to sound a lot fuller and we are really starting to put together some good music...we just need to add lyrics...and of course practice the shit out of the songs...

You got it down pretty well there!

Dont forget the 6 hours of sanding and polishing though ;)

Also I personally like to add what we call fall-away. Basically i ramp down the last frets to keep things nice as you move up. When I make a guitar I add that to the wood itself too. (the big secret to my guitars playability)

Luckily my custom Circle K sets came in yesterday as well so it's all ready strung up and set up for Drop F, and I was amazed how easy it was to intonate for that tuning I think its mainly due to the angled bridge where the low strings are further back then the high strings. It sounds awesome and actually plays pretty good for a 125$ guitar! It oozes bongripper hahaha

Look what I just found in Dublin...

Yep, that's the new Guild S-100 Palara I've been GAS'ing for since I saw it at Winter NAMM. The price is only €50-100 less than the brand-new price, but I bet I could get him down a bit. Now the question is, should I buy that Simms-Watts 100 or this new guitar, or should I keep the money for a new PC build.

So I was lurking around the ultimate guitar forum and found a guy looking or an amp for sludge/doom. Somehow I got dismissed because I didn't tell him to get a modern orange with channels and reverb unit. Laney be damned they just want splawns and deizels for sludge. Never going back to that scary place again.

So after trading my verbazilla for a tremulous line and then trading thst for a blackout effectors mantra and then trading that for an ocd v3 and damnnnnnn Nick was right ocd plus rat is fucking intense they just mix so perfectly.

yea man, i really miss my OCD/RAT box that I sold off. Just a pretty much stock RAT and stock OCD running both at like mediumish gain, brutal fucking sludgy tone. NOt exactly fuzzy drone but thick chugging shit

The thing that makes mine a little better for drone is the germanium setting on my dirge rat seems to loosen things up a fair bit but definitely brutal chugging sludge tone. I'm actually surprised I originally went the rat/muff route and could never get it to jive well. Should've got the ocd originally.
