Gonna be picking my J bass back up from my mom tomorrow and redoing it. I haven't played it since I moved out of my mom's house 6 months ago and I'm pretty sure its in a sad state. Going to probably drop some alumitone J's into it, grab a new pickguard, get some threaded neck inserts for the neck holes, new strings. Undecided about the control layout. I'm thinking maybe just a volume knob and a three way switch

G112W Traditional Guitar Cabinet




This high quality cab is made of 3/4 inch 13 ply Birch plywood with rabbet and dado interlocking side joints for extreme strength. These cabs have deluxe Tolex with Fabric Grills and your choice of Piping around the grill. Choose white, black, silver or gold piping.


The grill frame is firmly screwed into the baffle board with long screws instead of loose fitting velcro which can vibrate at moderate volumes.



If you see little dark pull tabs sticking out of the bottom of grills on other cabs, that is an indication that the cabinet is using velcro instead of more secure screws to hold the grill in place.

The Avatar cabinet has two Switchcraft 1/4 inch in/out jacks (for daisy chaining with another speaker cabinet) with thick oxygen free wire mounted on a rear steel input panel.


There is a sturdy strap handle on top. The cab comes with four rubber feet on the bottom. The cab comes with your choice of either a partial oval open back panel or with the closed back panel. We do now offer the conversion board so you can convert and open back to closed for $15.



The 12" speaker is rear loaded with T Nuts which makes it easy to swap out speakers for tone experimenting. We have many choices of quality Celestion guitar speakers to fit your precise tone preferences. It has been our experience that some of the favorite speakers for this cabinet are the Industry Standard Celestion Vintage 30 at 60 watts for all around great tone. The 30 watt G12H30 70th Year Anniversary special is also a favorite because it has a big rich warm low end, smooth mids with just a hint of grit when slightly overdriven and nice top end.

The Celestion G12T75 (used in many Marshall cabinets) has lots of crunch, big bass, scooped mids and sizzling highs at 75 watts.

The Celestion Greenback will give this cabinet early cone break up for classic warm low wattage tone at 25 watts.

For fantastic natural sounding high power clean tones, the 80 watt Celestion Classic Lead 80 is the Celestion that most faithfully reproduce your signal rather than to add any color or character to your tone. Great for modeling type amps or situations where you want neutral clean clear reproduction.

For the lower powered high end boutique tube amps, the Celestion Alnico Blue has the most wonderful chime and creamy midrange in a 15 watt cab. A lot of guys that have small boutique amps really like the Celestion Blue or the G12H30.

Our Hellatones are also great because the Hellatone 30 IS a slightly broken in Celestion G12H30 and the Hellatone 60 is a slightly broken in Celestion Vintage 30.

With larger amps, the 50 watt Celestion Alnico Gold would be the ultimate speaker for this cab. It is voiced similarly to the 15 watt Alnico Blue with wonderful creamy chime tone but has a higher power capacity.

To be clear; the two buildings on either side of me are businesses that keep banking hours and the nearest residence is about 75 yards away. And the wife is supportive. The house is relatively solid/sound proof-ish. I was playing my drums as my brother was leaving and when he got back I asked him how loud it was as he rode his bike down the street. He said not very. I still wanna be sensitive to my neighbors. I do have to live here.

Open-back for home use in a 2x12 or 1x12, IMO, especially with low wattage amps like the OR15. Closed-back for stage use with 2x12's or 4x12's and loud amps. Closed-back at home can be too directional. Open-back allows for smoother dispersal of sound and low-end, thus decreasing the likelihood of that infamous 'thud' when you have neighbours nearby or a slightly unsupportive wife. Just my experience.

I def prefer an open-back at home and at lower volume or with lower wattage amps. Low end starts to get away real fast when I turn up with a bigger amp so that's where I prefer closed-back, always. If I only owned a single cab tho, it would def be closed. Or built with a removable back section.

Yeah, that would be ideal. I've seen a few cabs with the option to remove the back. It's a pretty simple modification. Or even just a small open compartment in the back can meet the closed-back and open-back designs in the middle. Still, if I were gigging I'd prefer closed-back to push out from the stage more. If I were in a 3-piece, however, I might be tempted by an open-back to fill the stage more. I'm not sure. It's just semantics at that stage.

No, this will have me back up to 2 RRRs. It will the fourth I've owned though. I do have a Subdecay Spring Theory too though, I like reverb.

i've found that the tone knob on my Jazz Bass gets a lot more work than when i played a '51-style Precision Bass...you might want to consider keeping it.
