Ip Man is the shit. Saw it on Netflix a couple months ago and immediately watched the second. 2nd was kinda meh. And I know it's not kung-fu but...13 Assassins!!!
Great business with::: space6oy, SpaceFlunky, iamthesnow, DannDubbleEwe, leaves turn, Jero, Gigahearts_FX, PumpkinPieces, sergiomunoz74
Just watched Dragon. One helluva flick. Really beautifully shot, absolutely gorgeous. Donnie Yen did a great job, as did Takashi Kaneshiro in a very non-fight-centric role as the rationalist-obsessed detective. Great marriage of film noir and kung fu - actually not a ton of fighting, comparatively speaking, but what was there was used to great impact. And while the ending (no spoilers) was a bit of a deus ex machina, I thought it was one that had been carefully laid out from pretty early on.

Aww, a buddy of mine with the 72" mondovision tv used to do the same on sundays, good times...

Agreed on both Ip Man counts...and SERIOUSLY, anyone remotely interested in any form of the genre MUST WATCH 13 ASSASSINS!!!
True Legend WAS really good. i don't really dig on the older stuff. like, i have nostalgic memories for a bunch of them, but they're just hard to watch now.
i do like a lot of the newer stuff. i get a little tired of the incessant chest beating about how awful China has had it and what a wonderful country it is.... but that's more because there's like THIRTY EIGHT FILMS that did the same thing that Hero did, but with some subtlety. be proud of your country. even if it DOES smack of "make us look pimp or you don't get to make it" gub'ment control. just. y'know. tell a different story once in awhile.
i liked True Legend a lot, i thought Little Big Soldier's the best thing Chan has done in forever, District 13 was sooooo good, The Raid is like all the awesome parts of a Tony Jaa movie, but with a more fun story that has so much angry blood and violence, Warlords is my favorite epicy wushu thingy lately, IP Man is amazing (i have 2 staring at me. need to watch it.)..... um. shit. bunch of others.
OH! fucking Tai Chi Zero. LOVE that thing. like, it's the only thing i've watched where at the end of it i was pissed off that 2 (Tai Chi Hero) wasn't out yet. it's like a really good modern update of an older kung fu/wushu movie mixed with a Chinese version of Scott Pilgrim.
GOOD. STUFF.

If anyone remembers the movie with two old white haired masters fighting with their braids on a cliff and also two dark haired masters (maybe female) fighting with braids please let me know so I know it wasn't just an 8 year old's dream...
