I don't personally take it that far but I do know some who get extremely close to that.
A lot of stuff listed on that diagram comes from the use of animal byproducts.

Those byproducts wouldn't be cost effective if not for their mass abundance due to factory farming and demand for meat.
A tennis racquet string manufacturer probably doesn't operate it's own slaughter house and would find an alternative
if not for animal products being inexpensive and readily available.

Also, I appreciate your interest in subject matter of this thread but I believe the OP's reason for starting it was to offer
a resource for those who choose to minimize their use of animal products. Intentionally or not, the diagram you posted
does offer some insight into the widespread use of animal products and can be useful in determining future purchases.

If you have anything else useful to add to the thread please do. Otherwise, using this thread to espouse your love of animal
products or to denounce others for their efforts towards ending a global epidemic is akin to posting about your love of guitars
in a thread made to offer a resource to drummers. :idk:

Essential Amino Acids are very important. :thumb:

Here's some good info on how to get them through a plant based diet: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3081312/

They can also be supplied in non-gelatin pill/capsule form through most diet supplement suppliers.

Vegetarian since... uh, -95. Never had any dietary related health problem ever since I quit eating red meat in -94.

vidret wrote:alright i just want to add that i hope you guys have knowledge of the essential amino acids that you need to supplement to your diet, can be hard to do on a veggie diet.
amino acids are what proteins are made of, hence why your diet could be trickier to work with when it comes to that.

I would suggest reading up on essential amino acids and if you're working out make sure you have an alternative to soy protein as that's still being debated whether it's a good thing as the *main* source of protein in your diet.

carry on :hello:

i do have plenty of knowledge on all aspects of human diet and am very healthy, thankyou for your pretend concern.

perhaps you could also pretend to be concerned about all the horrifically unhealthy people who waddle around mcdonalds.

but feel free to post those pretend concerns elsewhere rather than trolling here, thanks! :hello:

I don't think vidret was trolling, just enthusiastic (he's certainly not 'pretending' to be concerned). He's not wrong about amino acids, but possibly forgot he wasn't posting in the doom workout thread.

In any case, I like the fact that it's generally (depending where you live) a lot easier to follow a vegetarian / vegan diet now than it was say, ten years ago. Certainly here in Perth, anyway. I don't eat soy or gluten and when I am on a veg/raw diet it used to be hard finding options that weren't simply meat replaced with tofu or gluten-based pretend-meat. :)

:whateva: again. my point was that it's ultimately inevitable. people giving vegetarians shit about other things they're using involving animal products and all. only so much is possible. and that doesn't have to be one's reason.

It seems to me that some people are uncomfortable with vegetarian diets because often people become vegetarian based on a specific moral perspective that identifies eating meat as inherently wrong. The concept that certain life forms, like pigs (not singling anyone out just using an example), are our "friends" and therefore should not be consumed to merely satisfy our selfish and savage need for animal proteins. The fact that this kind of morality based diet choice is a judgement of mainstream society is undeniable. It is a condemnation of the entire meat industrial complex and the consumers that support it. So it is totally understandable that some people could be offended. It is also understandable that they would get defensive and question the use of other animal products to rationalise their choices.

However, I recognize that not all vegetarians make dietary decisions based solely on morality. Furthermore, I can recognize that a growing number of meat eater are becoming more aware of the impact of their food choices and that organic and buying locally are positive movements that put us closer to finding a food industry that is responsible and sustainable.

I guess the point is lets not be so judgemental of others peoples dietary choices.... Vidret you ain't the devil... you alright. And Doctor X it alright take it easy... you alright too. Everybody be cool

Back to the topic. Why the hell is all the vegetarian fast food flavoured and shaped to be a derivative of some kind of meat? veggie dog, veggie burgers, hell I have even seen veggie turkey and duck. I mean falafel is good shit and it doesn't masquarade around like chicken. However somebody should make a veggie corndog (pogo).
