meh. i don't care if it's blasphemous and Nerd Rage Inducing........... but fuck the work of Philip K. Dick. i've only read like 3 of his books, they were all great ideas that were just a MESS. with horrible "endings". noooooooooooot a fan. Blade Runner is an amazing movie though.

to me reading PKD is like reading Ray Bradbury, one of the obvious influences on his prose style...i have to work through the flat, Midwestern, sub-Hemingway cadence to get to the ideas underneath. it's irritating to me that a proper version of one of Dick's books has never been filmed, given that the film of Fahrenheit 451 was IMO the best favor anyone ever did Bradbury. but it's quite true that endings were not PKD's strong suit. Still you'd think somebody would have done Man In The High Castle by now.

Yes. Why have they not done Ubik? That would be a great movie. They always neuter the PKD weirdness for the films based on his stuff, and you only get a hint of the intense what's-real-and-what's-not paranoia feeling (I'm thinking of Minority Report and Total Recall). The Three Stimata would be good, but they wouldn't be able to follow the novel very closely.

Inception is sort of PKD inspired, with the mind infiltration thing. These movies always take PKD out of the PKD; but in the books, you get a sense of the writer in the writing.

i actually liked the Keanu Reeves cell shaded thinger. that was the most Dicky version of one of Dick's books to me. super disjointed and uncomfortable.

Yeah I like that one, too. I haven't read that book yet, though. Mainly because the movie was so sad.

Fuck you guys, KILGORE TROUT IS THE BEST SCI-FI AUTHOR EVER.

Also, I miss having a Darkglass OD. A B7K would cut deep but could be done. When I switched to the Dingwall my B3K was the main pedal that suffered, most of my other ones sounded better with the passive pickups. I was using an EQ with the B3K for awhile to bump the mids, but hated the 2 pedal stomp for OD in a song. I was using EBMMs with 4 band EQs before I got the Dinger, so the B7K seems to be a no-brainer. Just that price.
I was thinking about trying a Vintage out from them since the ERA knob seems like a Mids knob. Anybody have experience with the Vintage besides Excane's sweet ass video?

Scanner was good. The problem with PKD movies is A) that they're hard to pitch, B) the last one that made any money was Blade Runner, and C) You'd need to buy the rights to them, which I'm sure somebody is sitting on.

Paul Williams, the pioneer rock writer from Crawdaddy! who died recently, was the executor of Dick's literary estate. he'd been suffering from dementia for several years after brain damage from a bicycle accident; conceivably this may have affected the adaptation market because you can't strike a deal with someone who isn't there.

so..... it's like OCD, i don't ever say i have OCD 'cause i don't want to diminish how hellacious it is for people that are almost crippled by it is, but i have OCD TENDENCIES. same with psychosis or dementia.

i was talking to a friend in the Meat World, explained the whole Am I A Clone fear, then when she told me i was being stoopid i told her, "well that's what you HAVE to say. you're part of the experiment.".

i'm mostly joking about wondering if i'm not the original version of me, but i was actually semi-paralyzed by fear for a bit because when i said YOU'RE IN ON IT i had this horrible idea that the entire world is a hive mind, i (and maybe a few others) have been bred/cloned/altered to be disconnected from the world wide human consciousness link.

that's why i spend so much time feeling like i don't understand people or they have a whole different set of interface options then i do or i'm.... broken? or fixed in a new way that makes things awkward?

lol. like, i didn't get the urge to run around cutting up all the robotic minders and prove it by showing off all the circuitry inside them, but i DID have about 10 minutes or paranoia fueled fear.

but if you know you're maybe acting crazy you're not really crazy right?

i think it's kind of the other way 'round. i believe that humans used to have the same kind of psychic link that, say, herd animals do but that we lost the thread when our brains changed as conscious and logical thought emerged. there was a popular book around the turn of the 70s/80s called The Origins of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind which argued this (and which the scientifically-informed will no doubt say has been discredited by now), and if you're feeling interpretative you can look at the Garden of Eden story as a von Daniken-esque parable of this as the First People succumb to The Knowledge Of Good And Evil, i.e. to self-consciousness.

sometimes the link pops up in strange and surprising places, and then it gets weird. one reason the Grateful Dead scene got so weird in the last few years was that there was a significant audience segment that was there not to listen to music, but to use it and psychedelics as avenues to hive mind.

if that's true, it scares me even more. Hive Mind is a freakish concept for humans that are so happy with thoughts of individuality. if we've naturally evolved away from that and there's a powerful segment trying to exeriment it's way BACK to if?

EEP.

Humans only think we're happy with individuality.

I think an awful lot of problems stem from people's innate desire to stick out from the crowd, and at the same time be one with the crowd.

well, mebbe we don't all truly want Unique Status amongst our tribe, but the idea of having no individuality? being completely subsumed into a mass that share the same thoughts, motivations, actions?

UGH. I PEED A LITTLE.
