Hahaha, Yes the airport-security is always confused by this and I'm always stopped of course. I can understand it, it looks very suspicious. Homemade wood, metal and a lot of wires and knobs, what could it be? One time an older couple that came after me through the security-checkpoint asked what plane I was going with and was truly relieved when I wasn't going with the same plane as them.
That's great. You should mount a small clock to it just to push their anxiety level over the edge.
