Iommic Pope wrote:Hey Necro, I haven't tapped back in on your future of music thread as I don't want to be arguing with someone that says they'd rather listen to dubstep than another stoner band. A lot of valid points were made after that, and I'm tempted to weigh back in, as I hadn't really gotten beyond trying to justify why people get nostalgic about genres, but it would seem the intellectual climate took a turn for the worse when that comment was dropped. So, apologies..

Yeah after you left someone started an argument about muse being the next Pink Floyd. I was surprised the argument took up nearly a whole page accounting for like 1/3 of the thread. but It did come to an interesting point; We are living in an age without a Megamythic band. The throne is empty, who are the likely candidates to claim it?

(Shameless plug) I urge all of you to go check it out, don't be afraid to speak your opinion my brothers.

It was more like a friendly open-ended discussion. Everyone saw my points (it was me who brought the Muse/Pink Floyd comparison. And I did so simply to draw attention to the rather large gaping hole in the music business). The biggest bands on the planet aren't Elivs and Pink Floyd and The Beatles and Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath any more. They're Lady GaGa and Rihanna and Westlife and Britney Spears. Muse, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, and The Killers then hold the ground for rock music, the closest successor for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Whether you think they even come close to the level of ingenuity and genius of the Floyd is neither here nor there. It's simply a matter of there being an empty bowl and multiple buckets of water about to flow over. Which bucket will start to fill the bowl first is up to the public, the media, and the industry as a whole, but someone has to fill it eventually, and it's that/those bands that your kids and my kids will view as the next Pink Floyd. We'll grumpily deny it and question their integrity, but ultimately they'll have every right to be emotionally connected to a group of artists, just as we have.

BUT, the OR definitely has more low end to it.. The treble and bass knobs are a lot more responsive on it then the green.
Since the Green is a MVU, it's hard to make it loud on its own for bass without putting the master full and cranking the gain, which I didn't want to do really, I want pedal gain/dirt out of one amp, and clean tone out of the other.

I've only messed around with the OR for a couple of days on a small cab in my house so far though,
This week I'll be hooking it up to an 810 and the Green to a 215.

Just all around very warm sounding amps, I'm very satisfied with both and haven't played anything like either of them before.
I plan on setting them up better to compliment each other, probably the OR on the bassier settings.

Like I said up there, probably for live I want to get a 70's SVT and use it for the clean bass power and the OR for the dirty/gainy sound overtop.

We need pictures of that huge rig when it's all set up. Don't let the Doom Room down, hommie. We're carrying.

So what? I've always been compared to Rage Against the Machine, Guns N Roses, and Alice in Chains. I don't like it but it's just their opinion. It won't stop me from being me. And besides, most people are ignorant. They think Harry fucking Styles is a rock god. Also, Slipknot are pretty good. They're a solid band. Not my thing any more, but I respect their musical abilities and the hold they've had on the industry.

Anyone here have any experience mixing the Eminence Red Coat Manowar's with DP12a's? Had a couple of WGS on my radar for an incoming 4x12, then found these and they seem to balance out really nicely where the DP12a's fall short for Guitar.

screw you guys and the 15 talk, look what youve done to me!

Dude, I was measuring up cab dimensions yesterday as well, looks like you've opted for the exact same thing I was going to do. Is that a delta 10"? Cause I was gonna squeeze one in with a 1518 or big Ben into a 30x16x24, ported.

Also, there was to much shit in the past 2000 pages, so I'm just gonna say it sucks when you're listening to om, you wait 11 fucking minutes for the song to break...and then the cd scratches.
At least windhand won't fail me.

They are both Delta 15b's! Im thinking a 24x16x42 ported cab. I ran the numbers and I think ill use 6 ports to 29 HZ. Im new to the whole venting thing so hopefully it doesnt suck haha

Windhand rules, their new song was really good, it was streaming somewhere not long ago.

Ughhhh I'm so excited for this tour.

Also Conky, you do you and don't worry about ignant Slipknot comparisons. It's like comparing you to Nickelback since your band has a guitar in it. HOW DARE YOU.

Fucking

Yeah, I don't mind getting compared to other people who really don't sound like me, but it is just the way they do it that gets on my nerves.

I wanted a Ditto looper until I got a Jamman Solo. It does everything I was wanting the Ditto for plus I can trigger samples with my feet from it. That Hummingbird sure is tempting. PM me with your price.

You didn't understand what I was trying to say. I wasn't saying that Muse are as good as Pink Floyd. I was simply stating the fact Muse could well take the position of obsession from today's youths, just as Pink Floyd did in the 70's to the youths and adults of that era. The annoying thing is, a lot of people don't actually listen to Pink Floyd. They just pretend to know them because everyone else loves them so much. A band beyond criticism makes for a lot of fakers.

sorry dude...to be honest i must have missed the full conversation, i only picked up on it when i saw the comparison between the two bands...so i probably took it out of context. I see your point though...in todays music world especially pop and the fringe of pop music there is no main stayers or truly dominant bands...there are a lot of bands that just come and go, where as Muse has stuck around for a while, and put out some decent stuff (as i said before i don't think they are bad, just not my cup of tea). Also...your point about people not actually listening to Pink Floyd...totally agree with that. I will never pretend to be a huge Pink Floyd fan, in fact i don't think i listened to a single song of theirs until i was in my mid 20's, but then i was hooked. But i do remember that when i would bring up Pink Floyd in conversation people had all sorts of opinions and things to say about them, but none of them had actually listened to a full album.

I grew up on the Pink Floyd greatest hits. I listened to those two CDs religiously. But like you I didn't actually start appreciating the albums until I became an adult. I'm listening to Animals right now. It's one of their excellent lesser known records.

Animals is good...its a bit cliche, but my favourite is Wish you were here.

Its funny how you pick up on music that you dismiss when your younger...besides Floyd, my other 2 big misses growing up were Lynard Skynard and ZZ Top...both those bands i put down to 1 song and never listened to them until my late 20's...then I heard Free Bird on the Devils rejects, and that lead me to buying more Lynard Skynard, and oh man do i dig their shit. And as far as ZZ Tops go...Legs is biggest misrepresentation of that band possible...Le Grange...nuff said

Believe it or not but my favourite Pink Floyd experience is probably Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd. I would never normally rate a compilation record so high, but this one just seems so well laid out and thoughtful. It's what first got me into Pink Floyd and it's the one that houses the most amount of positive memories for me.

I've got through a lot of different stages in appreciating music, but for the most part I could still listen to something I listened to ten years ago and like it. I was always a huge Manic Street Preachers fan, but although I don't listen to them that much these days, I'm always over the moon when they come on the radio.
