I'd suggest avoiding Emperor unless you find a good deal second-hand. They don't seem to give a shit about the 'little guy'. I've also seen some unsolicited and rather apish posts on their Facebook page. There are a number of alternatives these days, both in the US and in the EU. Before, if you wanted a well-made cabinet that sounded big and looked different, Emperor was the only choice. Now there are, in my inexperienced opinion, better alternatives.

Yeah I'm pretty much gonna keep my eyes open for shit here. Chicago does have a lot more people wheelin and dealin them, I don't know those guys too well but I honestly don't care much for their reputation and although I think they look cool. I honestly like the look of old sunn towers more than them.

Can't (or haven't figured out how to) multi quote so this is a few replies in one.

That Amenra video ispretty good. I've gotten back into them pretty hard lately.

I'm pretty pumped about the Hotrod 25. I have a Hotrod 100+ and I agree with you. The Overdrive channel is pretty awesome. I love running a Black Forest in front of mine set to a low gain od to boost it. It sounds great on the clean channel too.

I don't really know much about doom or associated genre but I really like bands as Sleep, Electric Wizard, Floor, Melvins, Sunn O))), Thrones... So I'm definitely going to try and follow this thread for some new music! Also amazed by the awesome rigs in this thread!

I'll share some local awesomeness:

The second track (by Drums Are For Parades) features the saxophone player of Shining!

I have loved amenra since we opened for them in philly. Absolutely blew me away. Them and Overmars are my favorite 2 european bands, but belgium has some great ones. The whole rise and fall, oathbreaker, amenra trilogy of bands is just killer.

What should I pay for a vintage melody maker? I wouldn't mind paying less for a guitar.

I will have 2 Emperors with custom etchings on them, then later 2 Mammoths. Needs to maintain aesthetics

You should get etchings on the backs of the mammoths as well. Make it a life size wizard design that is complete when they are stacked on top of each other. It'd be pretty sick.

Unfortunately Tom is not setup for etching but I possibly get the woman who does his burnt logos to do something.

I have the old Dunwich logo on one Emperor, and on the new one coming the new Wizard logo on there.

$700 seems awfully steep for a Melody Maker. I'd personally avoid modern Gibson unless you can try before hand.

yea. Cant get etching on a used one and my spec for look is fairly hard to find. Boils down to aesthetics again. I could of course get a cheap Emperor used. I did get a nice price tho.
