HEADPHONES... Your recommendations?

Post by excane »

I need to get a new GOOD pair of headphones for studio work.

Normally I'd been using several different Shure and Sennheiser phones that were mediocre at best. (not sure of the models, but they were beat up)
I've been really leaning towards a few AKG sets that I've had a listen to....

AKG K141MKII
AKG K701
AKG K271 MKII
and a few others.

Price range is pretty open, I just need something ACCURATE, can handle high SPL's, won't distort, etc....

Let me have 'em bro's

I've never tried AKG but the Audio Technica ATH-M50 are pretty nice.

I've been using AKG K240 for years
I like the big cans that cover my whole ears rather than squeeze uselessly against them

I agree, I really like the ones that cover your entire ear. More comfy and blocks out the rest of the world.

Are you referring to the K240 Studio ($99) or K240 MKII ($199) ?

Sony has a wireless pair for $100? That I've heard good things about, but I feel like they are really intended for gaming. I have a pair of Shure-440's that I really like. $100. The Audio-technica's mentioned here are also nice but, they have more bass and less presence/treble than the Shure's do. I wouldn't really recommend AKG headphones, not because they are bad, they're alright, it's just that there are better headphones for similar prices, in my opinion. But if you really like the KAG's then get them.

I've only used the AKG K44 so I'm of no help. I like them (They were only about 50 bucks) but really need something better. I'll be paying attention to this one.

Good call - I love mine :thumb:

Easy to drive, but eagerly takes headphone amps too.

In ear, I use a pair of Westone UM2s, and I absolutely love them.

If we're talking can type headphones, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pros that are pretty great, and cheap now as well.
