So I have had a bit of a revelation this week...

Post by Psyre »

Yes, it was one long thought process that took like 4 days to completely develop, but I have come to the realization that, oppose to my past feelings of guitar>Amps>effects, my priority, or rather interest, has greatly changed.

Now I think I am more of an amp>effects>guitar guy. Like I would rather have a nice amp, moreso than a nice guitar. I mean I love my guitars and maybe that's why I feel this way, but they aren't anything to boast about, I mean a '97 "The Paul II" and a rusted out power deluxe tele with a squire affinity neck.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I would rather spend $1,000+ on an amp than a really nice guitar. Or if I had $2,000 to spend I would just get two $1,000 amps.

Well that is what I thought about while I ate my hardees this morning. :)*

Disagree. Reconsider your source, baby.

I absolutely agree. My hierarchy of needs for a musician that wants to be in a decent band or play music or whatever are

1)Really good amp.
2) Okay guitar
3) Big Muff.

Well it's certainly not like I haven't owned great guitars. I've had multiple Gibsons, American Fenders, a Ric and it has never swayed my opinion about this, I don't miss any of them, and owning them never changed my feelings on this. :idk:

I'm in the same boat.

1. amp
2. pedals
3. guitar

I burry my guitar in so many effects it really doesn't matter what type of guitar I'm playing. I've been using a Dean Vendetta for years and more recently I aquired a Squier Strat. I dig the sounds that come from both, and I don't feel like it takes $1000+ to get the tones you want from a guitar

For me its:

1) Amps
2) Guitar
3) pedals

As far as guitars i've found its mainly how it plays that matters most and considering i cant find much of a playability difference between my gibby Faded V or Epi Jeff waters V and r aeal Gibby V standard or jimi model then why should i spend the extra dough when im gonna swap out the pickups anyways (they make the biggest difference in the tone a guitar IMO)? My gibson and epi both have identical pickups (gibson iommi's) with slightly different electronics configs but they sound identical when played through my rig. I also love the shit out of my squier jagmaster, plays like an old friend and once i swapped out the pickups its sound fantastic. BUT i've had shitty heads and ive now got some pretty freaking nice ones and i have to say they (along with matching really nice cabs) make THE biggest difference in tone to my ears. Pedals are third because i'm really a minimalist with them, i use what i need to achieve what i'm going for and nothing else. Guitar is tuner>fuzz>od>delay thats it, bass board is tuner>fuzz and thats it.

This.

I think a good foundation should always start with a solid amp and a solid guitar. Pedals are just icing on the cake. Loud, swirly, sexy, expensive icing.

Dang ya'lls. I've been "FORBIDDEN" from posting the post that I wanted to post. I can post in any other thread, with any type of content. Perhaps I will give it another go:

NOPE DIDN'T WORK.

***EDIT: Wow, ok, so that one worked. I wonder if there is a secret combination of letters and numbers that I stumbled upon that is absolutely forbidden to post. I just quoted avondon and added some things of my own that nobody was going to read anyway. :wha?:

I'm trying I'm trying!

I've cut/pasted it, removed certain words and numbers, symbols, etc. I talked about my three modest guitars that I've had that I've really loved, and how the other three that I've bought that were over $1,000 were unplayable.

And then I'm like HAHA YEAH:

1) great amp
2) alright guitar
3) Big Muff

BUT IT WON'T WET ME.

Well let me clarify myself again. Now that it is not so early and I can think a little better. My order is how I would budget my purchases from this point on I guess you could say. Not if I had absolutely nothing and had to start fresh. It's more of a "My guitars are nothing to boast about, but if I came upon money I wouldn't upgrade" If I was starting with nothing else, I wouldn't get a Starcaster/Maestro guitar so that I could buy two Timelines or something.

I just got a decent guitar and my pedalboard is growing. I still have my shitty little cheap chinese amp.
But hey- as long as the clean channel sounds good and it continues to take my pedals as good as it does now, I don't see myself getting another amp. So yeah... now that the guitar side is covered- 1)pedals 2)amp. I find myself lusting after a low wattage tube amp more often lately... then I just look at my bank account and I'm all set on amps again.
