First time we go to do that since we started dating without any time pressure of just visiting for the weekend.
It's the first time in a while that I truly felt "at home"; not geographically, but emotionally or something else I can't quite describe.

That's the best. Very sweet.

This would be impressive if I hadn't seen Peter J Woods last night where he ran a manual pencil sharpener through a shitton of pedals and made it the loudest thing ever.

Wrote some very elegant code this morning to manage video controls, captioning, and some other features.

My mom works at a public school that's really understaffed and I'm home with not much to do now, so I went over and moved boxes of supplies and stuff for a few hours. At the end of the day I went back to the office to get my stuff and sign out. As I'm pulling on my glorious pleather jacket, some kid in maybe the third or fourth grade who'd been sent to the office caught my glance and said, "You have long hair." This was a true statement, so I replied, "Indeed I do," not really knowing what else to say to that. The kid continued to stare at me wide-eyed and asked, "Are you a rock star?"

SMALL CHILDREN THINK I'M COOL. MY LIFE IS VALIDATED.

This story made me happy.
I have long hair and kids usually just make fun of me.

Grats, homes! I too did better than I expected. Only mine was B and 3 C's.

it's always good when you get surprised by doing better than you expected

someone on my Gretsch forum who couldn't travel up from SoCal gave me a free ticket to see Brian Setzer here in Santa Cruz last night, and though i'm not a fan of his it was really fun and enjoyable. he's a much better guitarist than he was in his Stray Cats days, having had 25 years to hone his chops, and genuinely looked to be having a ball. the show had two segments with different groups, one of which included Slim Jim from the Cats, and concluded with all the players onstage at once and more silly standup bass tricks than you'll ever see in one place. the place was rammed, and the audience enthusiastic enough to generate a genuine 2nd-encore demand with the lights coming up...the kind of audience that responded to Setzer saying "Guess what?" with 80 people of a 350-ish audience saying "WHAT???" when i talked to my friend Feather later, who's been supporting me on the phone for months while i've been dealing with my breakup and the associated stuff, she said "it's nice to hear your happy voice."

You know a girl called Feather?

As much as I despise that american way of giving ordinary words as names (River, Storm, Hope, Whatever) that is a really cute name. I hope she is not fat because then that name would be pure hell.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. Did Dan arrive yet?

she gave herself that name. her given name is Rosemary...like a fair number of 70s hippy and artistic types she changed her first name. in her case she was also motivated by distancing her identity from an extremely abusive mother.

Dan got here on Saturday. after a brief period of adjustment we're settling in. his bass arrived via UPS a day early, so we've had the opportunity to jam a couple of times already and that's been delightful. my cat is terrified of him, though, and has been hiding in my room most of the time. he's getting more accustomed to Dan, though, and will be OK in a week or 2 much as cats get gradually accustomed to each other. Dan seems to be doing pretty well settling in for someone who really isn't accustomed to living outside large cities...i need to help him get more stuff worked out regarding public transportation and such so he feels like he can get around on his own, though. he's really nervous about, e.g., riding a bicycle on the narrow country roads because he has typically ridden on marked paths on city streets or in parks. but that can wait until his bike actually gets here.

Sold three textbooks for $63. Not bad, not bad. One was $8, one was $10, and one was $45.
