So most people's parents would be happy to hear their child found a new part time job that will quickly pay better and have more consistent hours than their current one. Not mine, they turn this into another opportunity to splatter a diarrhea of skeptical derision all over my face in the form of some asinine interrogation in which they try to make me consider all of the things I've already thoroughly analyzed.

This is why I'm 19 and have lived on my own since the summer.
Some people really to have power over other people. There really isn't much you can do other than not tell them ANYTHING, or move out.

Dude in a few years you're going to read all this and just be so, so embarrassed that you ever felt this way or shared it with people.

It'll be like re-reading emo poetry you wrote when you were 15, just this terrible mixture of shame and horror.

On that note, I feel like I skipped my whole 15 year old emo phase but am just experiencing it now in my early 20's.

And in a few years, you're still going to be a grumpy curmudgeon that patronizes people.

Some parents really ARE fucking assholes, ya know. It isn't ALWAYS a case of ungrateful kids who will know better when they get older. Some bitching about parents can be legitimate.

There is some truth to this statement. However, 99.9% of the time my parents are the tops. I've just been really stressed out and irritable lately, and they have a tendency to exacerbate that even when I know they mean the best.

That's fine, and it's good that you're able to see that. I just don't like the fact that the older set around here tends to regard everyone under the age of 30 as just a bunch of irrational emo children whose opinions and feelings on things don't matter.

Oh come on Bigchief get a grip man, I was just giving some perspective. Snipelfritz himself admitted he was overreacting.

I wasn't being patronizing, I was assuming that Snipelfritz's parents aren't actually evil, mean people out to get him. It was a reasonable assumption and I was apparently right.

Also when you guys are older you'll think about the generation under you in the exact same way. You'll talk to them in the same way. How do you feel about 16 year olds right now?

They're sadly the most reliable weed hook-ups in town? :idk:

My whole issue is that I've tasted freedom: Being able to live like a slob and smoke indiscreetly whenever I like. Now, due to circumstances I'd rather not get into, I'm back at home and stuck in this cycle of self-destruction that won't see me in any position to get out of this God-forsaken place(for a young progressive-minded intellectual) for at least another year.

But that's enough whining from me for now. Progress is being made no matter how slowly. I'm starting a new job tomorrow, excitement!

Oh I totally understand that; I moved back in with my mom for a few months after college and it was unbearable. Having to sneak out back to smoke weed like a goddamn kid was the worst. Good on you for getting a job and making those steps.

Whether you intended to or not, it struck me as patronizing and condescending. If that wasn't your intent, ok.

I think of 16-year-olds the exact same way as I think of every other age group. There are some really cool people, some really stupid people and some assholes. And I never assume that I am wiser or have better perspective than someone just because I'm older than him.
