I got similar results with a CV P bass, which has a single coil, but still has the pickup close to the neck. I think I may be on the quest to make a franken-bass.
DO IT!!
I really, REALLY like the mudbuckers I put in. It's not the most versatile sound ever but what it does, it does well. I wasn't sure how I'd like them but I'm totally enamored! I like neck+bridge even more than neck alone.

Did you get a full, rich sound? Or was it more just straight bass? What kind of pickups did you use?

Hell yes! They never imported any of those into Canada, but I'd have bought one in a heartbeat.
Just for the record, it's one of the regular one single coil pickup re-issues, not that limited run. Also, it's $360, my mistake. I'm torn, because I just stripped down my tele for this band I just joined and now this pops up.
I tried to convince myself not to buy this, but I did and I can't not be stoked on it. Now I can use this as my main, since its light weight will be conducive to my flailing, and use my tele as a backup.
Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

Wow, that jazzmaster isn't getting enough use... give it to me.

I'm having some issues with the nut on the Warmoth that I've been too lazy to fix. I should have the pickguard for my '64 tomorrow, so it should be functional soon, though.
The melody maker will be tuned in drop c. It's white and I'm going to refinish it, but I'm not sure what color yet.

I think I came up with an idea. I have a jazz bass currently... maybe I can replace the current neck pickup with a dimarzio model J and then route a space for another pickup closer to the neck and drop my old neck pickup in there... on/off switch an volume knob for all three and an overall tone control, and finish it off with a new bridge and custom pick guard.
Anyone think this is a good/bad idea?
