they stay in tune pretty well and the necks are usually straight. they have a really nice fretwork and setup from the factory when new. the fretboards are some kind of synthetic ebonite or ebanol whatever. you need to buy the strings from ned steinberger that have ball ends on each end but then you can change strings in 5 seconds on stage! no bullshit. it doesn't weigh anything so its good for a long set. $70 grab it. a new one is over $1000 I think. production is really really slow right now. I guess nobody gives a shit about the genius of ned steinberger. the dude has mad patents yo!
I wanted a cathedral, but bought a ring thing without thinking, I can now play theremin into the mod input, while someone(thing) else plays into the pedal.. amazing. I can go on and on about how wel this boosts my creativity, much better than reverbs!
Conclusion: save money for a pedal, GAS for it for weeks, then buy something completely different.
$70? seriously? i'd buy those motherfuckers for $70 all day long. they're everything you'd expect an old hippie like me to hate about a guitar, but they're astoundingly comfortable to play once you get used to the non-standard form factor. if you hate it, sell it to me for $100 and i'll hug it and love it and call it George.
incoming:
Earthquaker Ghost Echo: nabbed from the Prymaxe Independence Day sale. i can't resist reverbs that sound like the plates on the Radiohead albums, especially at 16% off = $139!
Menatone Pleasure Trem 5000: i decided that i needed a trem with a LED that blinks in time with the clock pulse so i can set the speed when i'm looping/dubbing. someone finally posted an audio sample online, and i found a used example of this rather lovely-sounding boo-teek trem for $100. w00t.

always ends in regret and failure when you need it the least. I hate cheap cables like I hate glen beck.
