The idea of tattoos and piercings isn't that they could be easily brushed under the mat when time goes by. They are supposed to represent You by reminding YOu where YOu come from. Yeah, even in the daddy age. That's the whole point in it. Ask any biker or tattoo artist.
Besides: You probably didn't mean it that way but SOME of us are NOT born yesterday.

And the amount of tattoos, piercings and body mods are not necessarily getting any fewer. Ask anybody in
my bands. You don't think rock 'n roll subcultures is a passing stage of the Youth, do You? No You don't. That's what I thought, too.

My parents were convinced in the 80's that my heavy metal enthusiasm was just a phase and that the horrible noise would cease to exist all together in a few years like all trends, becoming a future laughing stock like the clothing and music of the 70's.
Now look what has happened to the 70's clothing. And music. And the heavy metal, and the rest of the 80's music. And the tattoos and piercing etc. Yeah.
