Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac makes me want to reconsider my choice of instrument. if you don't like Peter Green, fuck you. all the interesting stuff in Carlos Santana's initial playing style he stole 100% from Greeny. someday i'm gonna order up three or four compilations from that era, hack out all the Jeremy Spencer cabaret bullshit, and make the ultimate Greeny collection.

the middle versions of FM never particularly appealed to me, mainly because they never hit upon a front person compelling enough to really carry a group...the closest they got was the combination of Christine McVie, who to me always had the charisma of a pancake, and Bob "Sentimental Lady" Welch, who was sacked after (of course!) an affair with one of the wives.

and then of course there's the Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac and its aftermath, what 90% of people mean when thay say "Fleetwood Mac" (while the other 10%'s blood boils as they hum the riff to "Green Manalishi"). they had the supreme misfortune, in musical terms, to become enormously successful with a product which was worthy of broad but modest success. as such, they'll now forever be looked back on as "they sold THAT many records?" and "they weren't THAT good." what they WERE, as ALL the Fleetwood Mac bands have been, was a backing band of exceedingly high and grossly underrated quality with a new front unit, and Buckingham/Nicks were primed to take the bit. their other great misfortune was to achieve this pinnacle of success when the record business was at its height of cash-coke-n-carry insanity, and thus they went from club-band naifs to hotel-room-floor Brian Wilsons inside of four years of total indulgence when absolutely nobody would say NO if you were Stevie Nicks.

is there dreadful crap in there i wouldn't listen to if you paid me? yes. but if you take off your sunglasses and listen, there's also stuff in there that can readjust the frequencies. if you're one of those folks who--like me--natters on about how greeat Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys are and you can't find one thing to love in late FM, you're bullshitting.

and if nothing else, you've got to respect Mick Fleetwood and John McVie as a section. they cut "Walking on Shadows" AND "Tusk," the original "Black Magic Woman" and "You Make Lovin' Fun." i can't think of a more versatile bass/drums duo, not even Sly & Robbie. plus Mick came up with that SICK sideways Bo Diddley thing on "Go Your Own Way." what the FUCK was that?

what if I natter on about how much I hate that people think Brian Wison and the Beach Boys are?

Their best song was Kokamo because even fans of The Beach Boys will admit how dumb and frivolous it is despite it being no smarter or substantial than every single track on Pet Sounds. I never like the Beach Boys but I kept hearing how "Oh man Pet Sounds is amazing! It's totally unlike their other stuff. It's soooooo good!" Prior to hearing Pet Sounds, any time I thought of the Beach Boys and expressed my distaste for them I had one specific song in the forefront of my mind, Wouldn't It Be Nice. I finally break down and pop in Pet Sounds, and what's THE FIRST FUCKING SONG??!?!?!?!?!?!? WOULDN'T IT BE FUCKING NICE!!!!! THE ALBUM IS THE SAME AS EVERY OTHER STUPID "LET'S GO SURFING AND BOP WITH GALS" DUMBDUMBDUMB CRUD SUNG IN THE MOST OBNOXIOUS VOICES IMAGINABLE.

sorry, the rage button has been activated somehow and it just wont go off. Nothing wrong with the Mac, I really only know their mainstream radio hits.

uhhhhh I think I crashed and I can't think of a single thing to be happy about.

Golden Oreos are fucking delicious. I need to figure out a rig to electro-shock me after 5 or so, just to make sure I don't eat the entire fucking package.

I love it when a muthafuckin' plan comes together.

Even moreso when two or three come together.

And even moreso when they come together, go off and have a good time together, and let me go to bed.

lulz.

I just won two dollars on the first scratch off I bought ever! Well, I won four dollars, but the ticket cost two to begin with. I think I'll throw in the towel while I'm on top. It was one hell of a ride though.
