Pitch Shifter Suggestions?
So one of my band mates, who I am trying to get a little more well-versed in the wonderful world of pedals, is on a pitch shifter kick (I guess it's better than nothing). Admittedly, while I would like to consider myself a pedal nerd, I am not to savvy on pitch shifters. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know Boss makes a PS-5 and harmonizer, and you can get a PS-2 pretty cheap. There is also the harmonyman or whatever digitech makes. However, with the exception of the ps-2, these all seem to have extra bells and whistles that he might not (and maybe should not) be into. Are there any nice simple, good quality small company pitch shifters, or will I have to stick the major brands for this one and/or ones that pitch shift and do everything else imaginable. Thanks!

Well, you didn't mention the Digitech Whammy - those can be had for what I consider a decent price, and they do some cool sounds.

eh not really
green ringer is simply a monophonic octaver able of octavia-ish sounds. Plain stock it doesn't even have any kind of a mix knob. I had one built with a mix knob, was cool, great ring-mod sounds with chords and it made my black sovtek muff sound so big it was ridiculous... it also made any overdrive after it sound totally nasty
but it was kinda "limited" with it's posibilities and i'd not use it as i'd use a pitch shifterwhat about EHX Ring Thing? it's supposed to be good
For the simplicity you can always buy a Boss PS and a Whammy is also a classicI make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

This is quite versatile and won't break the bank. Pitch shifting, harmony, dive bombing, 12-string sound, expression pedal, stereo out. They may be blowing these out to make room for the PS-6.

Not having to have a separate expression pedal is why I've stuck with the whammy. Besides the convenience factor, the footprint of the ring thing + exp pedal is much larger than the whammy.

True, but a tunable ring mod? Yes please.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions! First, I will get him set up with some solid fuzz and OD and such (I got him to pick up an Octafuzz and a MI Audio Blues Boy Deluxe), but when it comes time for the pitch shifter, I will definitely suggest these options to him.

Re: Pitch Shifter Suggestions?
ringthing->whammy= crazy bird sounds, the cool instrumentals on suspira, a seismic whirling 12-string guitar, thunder, lightning. And that's if you don't throw fuzz or delay into the mix
Why hasn't anybody mentioned the pog/micro pog? I don't think the ring-thing wouldn't be very helpful to someone getting into effects because it's more complicated than most, I know it would have confused me for a long time a few years ago. As long as you don't need infinite amounts of vibrato, pitch-shifting from every end of the rainbow and a ring modulator, one of the pogs would be a good option.
For some good simple pitch-shifting, my favorite has always been the mxr bass octave.
