Re: Bitch about TalkBass here. Post Boobs while you are at i
Now that I'm involved with a music related business,...I have a new perspective on TB. I'm constantly concerned that I have to temper my posts that they will reflect negatively on me and ultimately my employer. I have to be concerned about abiding by the CUP. I think I'm unique in that I have a long posting history on TB before becoming involved in the music business.
This isn't a call out on grygrx at all,...but just to say that TB is so huge and representative of so many personalities that it really is an amalgamation of hot heads,...know it alls, who in reality only formed their opinions on hearsay...people who can only see negativity,...trolls,...with the vast majority being mostly level headed. I think you all know where I'm coming from and I am loathed to call attention to the specific situation that has forced my opinion of Talkbass; but right now I'm coming up against a user in a particular thread whose indignation is thick and he is playing the role of a consumer advocate. However he is not (as far as I can tell) a customer of any of the companies he is trying to "call out on the carpet". In the meantime those that are involved with these companies continue to be patient and good spirited or at the least level headed about their situation. At least in the case of my employer; those that have been patient and supportive will be well compensated for the inconvenience. It would be inappropriate for me to disclose what that is,...suffice it to say that my employer knows right from wrong,...has a solid moral compass and plans to take good care of his clientele.
I won't become involved in threads that are intended to call out an ebay or CL listing. I don't feel like it's my job to police ebay and CL (I'm sure you've all seen the call to "Flag this listing" on CL), but that's just me. I didn't look at the auction for the Blueberry and if the seller misrepresented it,...bad on him,...but at the same time if he is not misrepresenting the item and it trying to flip it for way more than it's worth and some rube is dumb enough to pay that much for it,...well I have a hard time faulting the seller on that. Is it ethical? A caps locked, bolded and underlined NO,...but who am I to tell other people what not to spend their money on. The same goes for CL ads. Sellers try to pull the same stunt all the time and while I have the moral compass to extend whatever good deal I get on a piece of equipment to any potential buyer, not everyone is like that. If you buy and sell enough you know that you are responsible for doing your own research. If you approach every potential deal with the idea that you could get hosed,...then you'll do the due diligence to not rush into a purchase.

yar. i could care less about the whole ebay lisiting thing. it's weird to me to call out another site when you're the representitive of another site, but whatever. it's just degraded to where mods can be bullies if they want to, since a user can't say ANYTHING publicly and a mod can drop whatever they want on someone and then close a thread or hide behind the "watch your mouth son, i'm a MOD".
that said, most of the mods i've dealt with have been cool and not like that. there's just some noticable exceptions that are blowhard know it all wusses.

Re: Bitch about TalkBass here. Post Boobs while you are at i
Yeah I've had my run ins with moderation before,...but it's all been part of the learning process for me. When I first started posting on TB I would get defensive,...take it too seriously,...post the do a search .gif. I'm sure those mods have taken note of our past disagreements. But in the position I'm in,...if someone starts to get inflammatory with me,...I just walk away and don't feed into their attention whoring. Sometimes they'll just go away all together. But you are savvy behnders,...I don't have to tell you this.
Now I just see TB for what it is,...a research tool. It's gotten to the point where I really won't reply to noobish posts because you can almost guarantee that they are just looking for attention or padding their post count. I do find myself gravitating away from TBFX (and coming over here) and looking in the basses section. For the most part my effects building research and feedback gathering will be done through ILF.

Am I odd if I've always wanted to get a Wal and just abuse it to the point where it looked awesome? It seems nobody ever does that to those basses.

Well they are pricey basses and seemingly used by doctor/lawyer bedroom players. Do you really want to abuse or even gig in bars and dives with a $10k bass (I think that's what they are going for). That'd be pretty punk if you did.
The Wal bass I checked out had a V profile neck. Yuck.

Eh, stupid thread, people taking things way to seriously.
Everybody is too goddamn sensitive. Mod will always get the last word in a thread closing (its inherent in being a moderator) and that thread should have been closed as it served no purpose.

I really would want to do it. It would be like Flea putting a stoker on a pristine pre-CBS Jazz.

Most do. I just hate on RHCP because they've been phoning it in for about fifteen years now. Primus is good stuff.

FWIW,...I have no idols.
I think Les is creative as hell and I love his quirkiness; but he is kind of a sloppy bassist

Re: Bitch about TalkBass here. Post Boobs while you are at i
I wish people would come off the TBP hype.
Here's the deal,...it's easier to wire up a 3pdt switch than it is to build a good buffer (good for guys like me).
A long signal chain needs at least one good buffer in it to give the signal enough umph to make it through the path.
Tone Suck = a slight High End roll off,...big deal.
Sheeple are so easily misled by hype these days. I'm going to do what I can to not mislead people but of course I'm going to advertise my pedals as having TBP.
