I like to camp. Also, just because there is beer somewhere doesn't mean it's *good* beer.

Good point. I used to go to parties, bring my own beer, and hide the good shit somewhere.

Well, I did that once. And it was a much better party than usual with those folk.

I had some extra parts left over, so I banged out a second, smaller draft transporter. This one is way smaller than the other one, but only has room for a tiny CO2 charger and almost no ice. It *barely* fits in a 5-gallon Igloo round cooler. I'm thinking this will be good for fall/winter/early-spring camping. Summer is out.

It's only sized for homebrew applications. The smallest commercial keg you can get (at least through a typical distributor) is 1/6-barrel, which is about 5.25 gallons, and those are way too big for either of the cooler setups I've done.

And if you're brewing it, you don't quite swill it as fast as if you bought it.


For saving money on commercial beer, your best bet is to get an old refrigerator off craigslist and convert it to a kegerator for use with 1/2-barrel kegs (that's the normal large size used at bars and keg parties). Then you can use a CO2 cylinder to push the beer, which means that it won't go bad for months. What makes keg beer go bad is pumping regular outside air into them with a hand pump. With CO2, you never pump, just pull the handle and let it flow! If you want some help with that, shoot me a PM and I'll get you all set up. Hell, I've got a spare shank and faucet I'll sell you for practically nothing (or trade for a pedal, haha), if you really want to do it. Seriously, it's easy. Drill one 7/8" hole through the fridge door, put the shank through and tighten the nut, and then screw in the faucet. Then all you'd need is the cylinder and some hardware to attach to the keg. I think you could do the whole shebang for like $150, assuming you get a used fridge on the cheap.
