I'm not happy with the Pickups in my Vintage™ Flying V. It has those Wilkinson WHHBN ceramic 'buckers and they sound pretty bland and sterile to me (even though many folks in the forums seem to like them). I think I want to put P90s in the guitar. My other guitars are a Casino with replacement P90s with lower output (7.5k vs. 12k stock) a Les Paul with GHS P90s and a Firebird and there's also a Tele. I first wanted to keep the humbuckers in the V for more distinction in my guitar family but I believe it's just not my style.
I'm leaning towards the Roswell LGA90 humbucker sized P90s (neck: 5.8k, bridge: 9.85k). I wonder if I should replace the cheap import pots while I'm at it. My Les Paul has 330k pots for both volumes and both tones, my Casino has probably 500k. I'm thinking to use 500k linear taper for the two volume pots on the V and 250k audio taper for Tone. What do you think? I don't want the V to sound overly bright (that's what the Tele is for) but it shouldn't be muddy either. I want the pickups to reproduce the resonant and lively acoustic personality of the guitar. It's currently set up for B standard tuning.
