I did beat Doom 2016 on switch earlier this year, though. After I did we had to replace my joycons because I’d literally destroyed them playing that game. The joystick housing was dented from all the glory kills when we opened it up to replace the parts.

nothing wrong with the classics - if I didnt ultra binge on games earlier on in the pandemic I would have gone back to the some of the OG titles.

Doom 2016 is a stellar game - super well done

Some of the mechanics are "odd", to put it mildly, in the context of the evolution of game interfaces (including things like keybindings), but if you stick to it, through the weirdness, it kinda works. By "works" I mean that it feels coherent enough. The game is still great in terms of transporting you to an alternate reality.

Yes I think it works beautifully. One of the most immersive and otherworldly games out there once you get past the weirdness. I first played it when it was already kind of old (2010ish) so I am well acquainted with overcoming the shortcomings and installing a million mods for fun and convenience

I want to play Doom Eternal but there's not a fucking chance I'm spending $60 on a video game that isn't Cyberpunk 2077.
So far I've just bouncing between Halo MCC, Titanfall 2, and Rust.

I feel very unfulfilled by video games right now.

Same.

I did about 9-10hrs and quit.

Same with Witcher 3, Mass Effect 3 and Monster Hunter World.
Wanted to love all of them but got so bored.

I find that it's hard for me to play complicated or story driven games; when I'm only playing a couple hours a night and a couple nights a week.
I would need to play 4-5 hrs a night, consecutively, to make it work.

also not really playing video games right now.

MHW has a much more gamey loop than the massive open world stuff. it kind of trades on the combat being fun and the unlockables you take out with you next hunt. that said, i ain't played it much either!

the last couple of games i got stuck into were outer worlds (which sucks but i had a good time) and death stranding (which owns and i am really enjoying it). both have smaller disconnected open areas so you get more forward story momentum as opposed to a whole lot of "do whatever i guess"

Hmm I only play like this now (couple of hours a few nights a week) and I still found Witcher 3 super easy to get into and enjoy because it's pretty hand-holdy with what's going on. But :idk: different strokes

But I totally get where you're coming from. It does make it harder

Massive DnD & CRPG nerd here, and I think The Witcher series suck. Big time. The most exciting time I've had with modern CRPGs have without a doubt been DOS and KCD. (Mass Effect was a mixed bag.)

I am a massive D&D and CRPG nerd and I loved the Witcher.

It's just fun, you don't need to think about it, looks awesome, pretty good writing and voice acting for a game. :idk:

I'd like to play D:OS and a lot of other modern CRPGs but my wrists have died so mouse and keyboard gaming is no longer an option sadly

witcher 3 combat feels like it was designed by someone that has never touched a video game. the game kind of feels like it would rather be a visual novel/point&click dealio.

Hm interesting take. I found the combat fine?

It's hardly the best thing ever but it works and is kinda fun for the most part

The only reason I played through Witcher was because of the story. The in game fighting mechanics were very wooden and stiff. Most of the time I would just roll away from enemies until the game would let me run again. The leveling system was also hard to deal with. Why can’t I just level up from fighting monsters? Why do I have to take on contracts to gain levels?

Because witching is about doing contracts, lol

These all seem like valid criticisms, but I am glad they didn't bother me and I enjoyed it. I liked doing all the contracts and stuff.

murrrrrr. somehow passed Ori without unlocking the last two skills. that is... a difficult game. platform wise? BOOF. dunno if i feel like 100 percenting it. seems pointless when there's no more content.

want to do the Barrels O' Fun runs on Dead Cells (got to 4 cells, need to get the 5th eventually), but taking a break from that love butts time suck.

playing Hades. super good so far.
