you think you want this, but you don't

the 300ms limit is too much for me. or rather, not enough.
I know but in my mind it is two entirely different applications. I love long delays and pad-like delays. But the whole thing with the quick analog delay

I am not going to buy anything

suuuuuure

I agree though. It's two totally different things. I like having a digital delay around to do looping and long delay times. If I got another analog it would be just for the shorter stuff (which is 90% of the delay I use even on the digital ones haha)

I think the maxons are great even if they are only 300ms. Its just like a great space effect and its awesome with another delay stacked. The wet/dry outs are pretty awesome too

Definitely. I've been through a number of analog delays, and the Maxons are the clear winners for me. Looks like they've started to increase in price though, even in Japan, so I don't know how easy they are to come by cheap anymore.

Do you guys have any favorite analog delays that have tap tempo externally?
(small footprint is pretty important but not necessarily a requirement)

Red knob Tonal Recall. Sounds great. Too small for me to accurately use. Otherwise the old DMM-TT sounds fantastic but not small at all.

I'm also a fan of <300ms delays.

This thread doesn’t help my gas for my delay quest.

Question about the chaise bliss audio mood - it looks so fucking cool but at almost 300+ you might as well go up to a Strymon Volante which in its own right an equally cool and complex delay.

Are both of these units equal or are they miles apart ?

:idk: it doesnt matter. What matters is the sound and what you need it to do.
Take my current situation. Im doing a complete musical life change and except for my compressor none of my old gear works. For years for pedqlboard setups I used maxon ad900s then a moog 104m and ended up settling on a boss re20 for the last 4 years.. Becuase 1. The first effect i ever had was a space echo so for me everything is weighed against that and 2. Ive never been able to get a bucket brigade delay to work the way i want on bass in a band setting... Sure they are fun jamming on your own...

So on making the new rig i pulled out all my old delay pedals and even bought a trex digital delay.. And... Meh. Even with the mooger... So i pulled out my old re201, put in a new tape and it was still THE sound... But... The idea of dragging around something that hard and expenive to replace let alone cranky and old is a total no. So i sold my mooger and has a trex replicator jr on order (yeah i could get a used one or one that has been sitting in a shop with everyone thrying the thing out... No. Not on a motorized unit.). Why buy a expenive posibly cantankerous motorized tape unit? Because thats what I need for the sound I have in my head. Thats what is important. Think of the sound you want. The delay feel you want. Then, find which ones do that and go from there. Then wory about cost of your options :thumb:

this video sold me on the volante
i didnt get one because i want analog and small footprint
but the volante does the echoplex, echorec, space echo, and probably lots of other stuff, and they all sound amazing

I dont know if you've tried the el cap but one of the secondary knobs has a bias function that gets it a bit grittier

re: analog delays with external tap tempo

i just remembered the jhs panther cub v2 has that.
from the demos i like the way it sounds too.

i already have the jhs unicorn v2 (awesome) and i have a jhs emperor v2 on the way
i can get the panther cub v2, then i will have the whole set!
and i can be the bougie-ist motherfucker on the planet.

realy though, it would be cool to have a 3 way tap tempo controller, by saturnworks or whoever, and tap their tempo all at once.

Apart from drastically limiting your options when looking for external tt on an analog delay...Doesn't an external switch take up MORE boardspace than a pedal with an extra switch? :idk:

wanted to control tap for 3 pedals at once, it's a tiny lil switch not really a big deal
