What, "Zappa-loving Canterbury-inspired blissed-out spiritual jazz rippers?" It'll probably work :D Tell you what, though, a Delorean is always prog enough :p

R.E.O. Speedwagon

is not a prog band.

But they contributed abandoned in an Illinois cornfield eventual members of two separate prog bands that were founded on the principle that annoying vocals are the cornerstone of prog. But only one of those bands could have the *most* annoying vocals, taking up the mantle of Family and Comus, and giving Rush a bytoriffic fright (and leaving the other band to fall back on aping Yes mercilessly in a castle on a star).
In the name of all that is enervating, unholy and progdacious, I give you:

Pavlov's Dog--Pampered Menial

Also--righteous channel name

Listening to 'The Kick Inside'

So...if first-wave symphonic prog is all LOTR/Titus Groan, does that make early Kate, like, 'The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe'?

Here's some third-wave symphonic to listen to while you slice and dice my faulty logic:

Remembering when: Barclay James Harvest was a poor man's Procol Harum, not a poor man's Moody Blues.

Barclay James Harvest - 'When the World was Woken' from the s/t debut.
(full disclosure: I actually rather like their debut for its blend of wonky fuzzichord psych and proto orchestravia, but not because it is, in any way, original)....
